CA was working just fine on my Pixel 3XL with Android v10. But last night's update to v11 appears to have killed CA. It launches then instantly shuts down.

Is CA still being maintained? And will this be fixed?

Ah, so Android 11 doesn't fix it but breaks it across more devices.

The issue is that CA is trying to read an Android API that no longer exists. I have detailed it in another thread here:

HINT (maybe?)

Samsung is the world leader in sales of mobile phones. Perhaps it would be wise to get CamerAlert to follow the Samsung OS? Just saying.

More and more vehicle manufacturers are locking down their head units, TT have blocked third party cameras, Samsung S10 devices can't run CA, Android 11 devices can't run CA.

If this site is to continue to sell subscriptions then something needs to be done as phones seem to be the way to go but after a year of bug reports I'm not persuaded that anyone is investigating.

Even if they are, they are doing it pretty secretively.

Apple iOS killed CamerAlert much longer before Android did. Not being very bright, I don’t know of any other operating systems for mobile phones, so I don’t think there is another of any sales volume.

I know loads of people don’t bother with system updates, so it takes a long time (often only a hardware purchase) for these matters to take widespread effect. But on the horizon there is a time when CamerAlert simply won’t work on anybody’s phone, yet still there is no sign of this brilliant App being developed.

Ostriches and Sand and Lemmings spring to mind.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S20 running Android 10, just out of interest, I installed CamerAlert. I then went out for a drive and found that it did actually warn me of the speed cameras through the car's audio.
The only negative is that I don't have a dock for the phone, it just goes in the centre compartment, so I have to start the app each time I get in the car.

Yes, we are aware that the S20 still runs CA.

Will that still be the case when it updates to Android 11 ...... let us know.
