Planning fastest route often takes me off A road and onto a B road then back onto same A road to save 30 seconds.
1) Would using plan eco-friendly route avoid this?
2) Does anyone know what the difference is between Fastest and the Eco-friendly in terms of criteria i.e. use of motorways etc.
TIA Paul

From numerous similar posts over the years this is a common trait with all SatNavs.

Garmin have come in for most criticism but it seems to vary by report.

In my case, if I'm still a fair distance from my destination then I never turn onto a B road as it's often, as you say, trying to cut a few miles, or sometimes just yards, but often with a considerable time penalty.

If I'm travelling into unknown territory I do some prior homework and get a rough idea of the main roads.

Yes you are correct Kremmen, I think it is just getting worse with every update/new version. I don't recall my iPAQ with TT software doing it. You now have to go over the route prior to setting off just to check, which can be time consuming if you are already on the road and have to input a new destination.
The algorithms used now are too clever for them.

I'm still running the last version of Microsoft's MapPoint 2013 and that does a far better job of calculating sensible routes.

OK the roads are out of date but it sticks to main roads where possible and often gives a shorter route, distance and time.
