With the map data loaded, you also get speed limit warnings, and some other stuff, but the speed limit warning seems a bit patchy in operation, possibly to do with lack of data in the road database in some instances.
I must do some more investigation. For instance, it doesn't warn me when going from a 30 to 40 zone (although the limit icon is displayed) but does warn when that zone reduces back down to 30MPH.
This specific one is starting at about 50.84551, 0.48698 in a 30 zone and driving west.
There is a 40 zone starting at 50.84638, 0.48298 (icon on STA map) that ends at 50.84582, 0.47126 (icon on STA map). No warning for going into the 40, but warning of impending 30 zone.
Might be settings, but not sure. Will have to check and report back

The app doesn't warn when limit changes to upper.
Only when:
a) limit ahead is lower than current limit
b) current limit is unknown, but your current speed is higher than the known limit ahead.

And there are also "Speed difference to speed limit to activate.." slider.

I thought there is no need to annoy drivers with voice alerts for higher limits.

@Privateer. I believe CA would false alarm under the top circumstances shown my Leo above, and as he says, the second example is just pure madness to try to stop false alarms.

So you get the occasional false alarms, but a lot fewer than you get with the offering by TT.

@Leo.
Re speed limit warnings. OK, thanks, I now understand it's by design and agree with you about increase in speed limit. Looking out of the window should sort that out and you don't need a 'warning' that the speed limit is increasing.

I've tweaked 191814
191815 has a direction of 270 degrees so will not affect the main carriageway
191816 has a direction of 10 degrees so will not affect the main carriageway

I remain sceptical. I would have only placed two exitspecs :

51.43339,-0.86205 Heading 320
51.42928,-0.84661 Heading 112

This is what threw me re the middle Specs.

These 50 markers are on, and for, the unprotected A329(M) just before the M4 turn-off, that is 50mph Specs protected.

Hi Leo,
1. Please add my vote to the (semi)automatic database update feature request.

2. The app sometimes warns of cameras that are not on the actual road. The same cameras are not warned by Cameralert using its default degree settings. I have installed the map data.

3. The auto start/stop when using Bluetooth seems patchy. I've ticked the boxes in the settings for both my cars, but it's 50/50 as to whether the app launches or not. Remembering to manually launch and close the app is a pain. I'm using Android Auto - the Cameralert option of "launch when car mode detected" worked perfectly.

1. This not depends on me. URL is necessary for auto-updates, but there is no URL )

2. Ok, I understood. I'll continue about this in next messages.

3. Currently, the app allows only one BT-device for auto start/stop when connected with. Ok about "car mode".

Thanks Leo - point 3 is the most important for me. Is it something that is being worked on already? If so, I will subscribe to the beta service.

Does it ?

I thought whenever it detects a BT connection on whichever phone connects then it starts ?

I'm guessing because I only have the one phone in my cars paired list.

I have one phone but two cars. Both cars are shown and ticked in the "launch/close with BT" setting in the app. However, it seems that the app only recognises the car which is currently selected using the dropdown arrow.

So when I use the other car, I have to manually select it using the dropdown - which kind of defeats the point of auto-launch, as you have to launch the app to get to the setting Smile

Only with the device specified. Currently, only one.
Otherwise, it would start as you connect headphones to listen music at home or something else when its start is undesirable.

There is no problem to detect connections for several selected devices, but I need to modify the app's UI to use multiselection ui-element. Drop-down selects only single element. Ticketed element in the drop-down is the device the phone currently connected with.

P.S beta channel has nothing new now. Pre-alpha version on my phone has routes for av. zones and uses map data to reduce false alerts from roads nearby.

Thumbs Up I've been educated Smile

Good news, with the GB map loaded, as soon as I turned off the M4 onto the A312, Hayes end, I got the end of zone very quickly.

The Reading end was slightly quicker but that sliproad Specs throws the logic as it's not on the M4 so it thinks I'm still on the same road, understandable.

No idea

I just downloaded the GB map and that was it.

As you said, it's now able to make a better guess that I've turned out of a Specs zone early.

Once the road network file is loaded, how long is it valid for? Does the file need updating on a regular basis or does it auto update once installed?

Thanks

I update road networks once in couple of months. What happens during two months on OSM? Some changes here and there, generally, hard to notice them, and I don't track them.

The app don't update it automatically, but if to open road network list (settings - advanced - road network), there will be an indication that the update is available.

Have started using Speedtrap alert - after reading this thread for tips in setting up- mainly because since my MotoG6 was upgraded to android 9, the camerAlert screen notifications when run with Tomtom Go did not show so I was just using voice notifications.
Even on Android 8 the notifications only stayed up for a few seconds and did not show the reducing yardage to camera. Also the Average speed/Actual speed box was never visible on top of Tomtom go.
I could not fault CamerAlert when used on its own in our motorhome with Tomtom go 6200.
Speedtrap Alert running with Tomtom app has none of these problems (although I have yet to try it through Average speed camera zone).
So far so good.

I have just travelled the M6 J3a, where it splits off to the toll. CamAlert used to end the specs zone a couple of hundred yards up from the junction, STA doesn't. I have had a look at the submission map and the exitspecs seems to be missing, but STA doesn't work on exitspecs does it?
