Hi, I have a OnePlus 6 running android pie.
Camera alert is definitely dodgy on Pie for
2 reasons

1) it often fails to get a GPS fix
Maps etc get a fix immediately

2) it often stops running in the background.
I rely on this and now find It can't rely on it
always running in the background.

Has anyone else had these issues?

Thanks

Have you set Android to not monitor it so it doesn't shut down when it's in the background

The app is not battery optimised, so should run normally in the background.
Now using TomTom camera alert app so I am covered

Good luck with that the. But if it doesn't background stop, then that's an improvement.

Can you try turning on Developer Mode* and then disable 'Slumber' from teh developer options?

*go to Settings then About Phone. Scroll to the bottom and tap on Build Number 7 times.

Another thing to try is when CamerAlert is running, tap on the 'running apps' button and then tap the padlock icon in the top corner.

You could also try:

Settings, Advanced, Recent App Management and make sure 'Normal Clear' is selected.

Also, in the Battery Optimisation area - tap the 3 dots and disable the 'advanced optimisation'

I have recently upgraded to a new Moto G6, running android v8 and am having simillar problems with CamerAlert.

Specifically, CamerAlert works perfectly until I get a call on the phone or another app pops up a notification, then it stops giving out alerts. If I use app switching to go back to CamerAlert, it might display upcoming cameras, but doesn't warm about them. Going into app management and forcing CamerAlert to stop, then relaunching CamerAlert fixes the issue - until the next interruption, then it crashes again. I have turned off battery optimisation for CamerAlert, but this hasn't helped.

I never had problems with CamerAlert on my old G4, running Android v7, so I suspect this is a problem with Android v8, possibly related to the new power management in v8 ??

My OnePlus 5 updated to Pie today and had no issues on a nearly 4-hour journey I've just had the 'pleasure' to make.

Kept running in the background (using the settings I posted above for try stop any battery optimisation etc) and giving alerts and getting a GPS-fix as expected.

The only issue was the map refresh playing up (ongoing issue and not Pie-related) but as before a quick 2-finger swipe up then down sorts that.

I would also question "peeps" and "favs" and all similar crappy things.

Android Pie - Google have a history of giving their version numbers codenames that are to do with sweets/deserts since the 3rd major release:

Cupcake 1.5
Donut 1.6
Eclair 2.0 – 2.1
Froyo 2.2 – 2.2.3
Gingerbread 2.3 – 2.3.7
Honeycomb 3.0 – 3.2.6
Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 – 4.0.4
Jelly Bean 4.1 – 4.3.1
KitKat 4.4 – 4.4.4
Lollipop 5.0 – 5.1.1
Marshmallow 6.0 – 6.0.1
Nougat 7.0 – 7.1.2
Oreo 8.0 – 8.1
Pie 9.0

The Honda built in headunit is still using Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 and owners wonder why modern apps won't load or work.

So why the hell don't people say V9.0 (or whatever)
I can find from my phone (now) that iyt isn't running 'Pie' Because it very clearly tells me it is running Android 8.0.0
and I can instantly tell that this is more recent than Android 4.0.4 on my car.

Ah! Just had a look at the full list and now realise that they are in alpha order.
But not having seen a full list before, I didn't realise that. But it's still a stupid idea.
