Today I've downloaded the latest Speed cameras, POI's and Voices MP3 and WAV for my Nuvi 3598LMT.

In the past they have worked perfectly and I have had voice warnings of up coming cameras, today however I cant get either of the MP3 or WAV files to announce cameras, only a double chime.

The Nuvi is bang up to date so I'm assuming something I have missed has changed. I do have the Sox file and POI loader V2.7.0.0

Any help getting Liz MP3 or WAV camera warnings working would be appreciated.

Regards and thank you.

The first thing to do is delete and forget the MP3 files. They will not work and were provided for really old Garmins that had an MP3 player built in.
The double chime is the Garmin default warning.

Did you get any error messages when you ran POILoader?
Have you read Kremmens 'Spoon fed' how to do it. Search for it.
Don't bother, it's HERE

Thank you for the prompt reply.

Yes I did get an error message appear in POI Loader relating to the WAV files not being in the correct format and therefore were not loaded to the Nuvi, all other files were installed successfully and worked.

I'm working my way through the link you sent and will advise once the job is done.

Thanks again for your advice. Regards.

I seem to remember that error occurs if sox.exe is in the wrong place so pay particular attention to that as you go through.

sox.exe needs to be in the same folder as poilaoder.exe (usually c:\program files\garmin\poiloader - but may be in program files (x86) if you're on a 64-bit system).

Also use the sox.exe from here: https://www.pocketgpsworld.com/downloads/sox.zip (make sure you extract the file too).

That's the most likely problem. Either the wrong version of sox. exe or it being in the wrong place. There is, as you say MaFt, the added possibility that it has not been unzipped.

All shown in pictures in my spoon feed version so there shouldn't be a problem.

Well I've had a go with the latest version of POI Loader and SOX from the link you provided and this is the resulting message I get.

Unable to convert C:\users\user\documents\garminpoi's/pocketgps_uk_gatso_20.wav to the proper format therefore this audio file was not transferred.

which is exactly what I was getting with the old software I was using previously, I'm currently looking at the POI Loader, I can see a list of application extensions and at the bottom is a white rectangle with a blue box inside, named "sox" it's an application, size 1672kb.
POI Loader is installed in program files X86.

Having uploaded the POI's, WAV voice and Speed camera files to the device and getting a confirmation of so many thousand files installed successfully plus the error messages with regards to the voices, I now find I'm actually worse off than I was before, I don't see any Speed or Red light cameras showing up on the map and no speed icons ie. "40" in a small box at the location of a speed camera.

I can't see my error, obviously there is one.

Regards.

I'm not in a position for a few weeks to teamviewer onto your PC but maybe @M8TJT is, providing you're happy to let him do so.

He has done it before to sort out what's wrong.

Count me in K. No problem.
If you're up for it Intra, send me a PM with your phone number and I'll phone you (mention a convenient time).

The error message that you are getting is caused by either using the wrong version of sox.exe OR it is in the wrong place. We were just making sure that you at least had the right version. (And thanks for the exact error message. It makes such a positive difference)

In the mean time,
1. go into My PC, Computeror File explorer (whatever it's called on your computer)
2. Select the 'View' tab
3. Put a check in the box named 'File name extensions'
4. Navigate to 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\POI Loader'
5. Check that sox.exe is actually named sox.exe and NOT sox.exe.exe.

Please report back on findings.

So I have managed, with the help of M8TJT to get it all working and the matter is now resolved, admittedly I did have to use another windows computer which I can now refer to to correct whatever the problem is with the original computer.

Here is a question though with regards to the speed camera banner that appears at the top of the screen when a warning is given, mine is a very dull and unattractive grey colour, is there a way to change it to Red which would certainly make it eye catching as any warning should be.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to getting the matter resolved, your constructive comments were all appreciated.

Glad it's sorted. Warning banner is what it is I'm afraid.
