Well, I’m the old one and new to Garmin (Drivesmart 61) having retired my TT 730 (still working).
So now, I come here to bother you knowledgeable people with some questions if I may.
I did manage to use POI loader and it worked fine when using the device but found that couldn’t see any of the camera icons.
Decided to have a go at the CSV to GPX converter and after some initial hiccups, I managed to install it, adding sound and 44x44 icons, till I didn’t get any errors. All loaded fine with POI loader and definitely have a PGPSW folder on my device.

So, my first question is, should the camera icons show up just by browsing the map or does it only show while on route?

Best regards,

Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. I have yet to work out what the 'sometimes' depends on. It's a bloody computer so should be predictable.

If you do a simulated route past one or more they will show up and alert you. And obviously if you go for a drive past one they will as well.

Mine all show when I browse the map. When navigating if you're under the limit they don't.

I've never been able to see the icons by just browsing and scrolling the map.

Works perfectly under simulated GPS and when out.

I can usually see my local ones on my DS61. Seems that if I switch to North up (2D) they are there more often than not.
When I say local, I mean within about 1.25 miles. More distant ones don't show.
This is reasonable, as if it showed them for a greater distance, when zoomed out, the map would have a clutter of cams all over it. As an example, have a look at London on the submission map when zoomed out as far as it will go but still show the cams.

Do you have Up Ahead selected? I know I do and can see all the icons when I scroll. I'll try to check later if switching off Up Ahead changes that in any way.

TBH it's never been a feature I need.

I just use mine when in the car on the move.

Not on my DS61, I can see my local ones most of the time. But I do have to have Up Ahead on my Honda Garmin else they don't alert at all unless I 'restore' the satnav, which also removes my other settings such as theme and trips.

If I have Up Ahead on as well after a 'restore', I get a double icon, one from Up Ahead and a slightly different one from the Alert. With Up Ahead switched off, the Alert icon, banner and voice works exactly the same as it does on the DS61.

Thank you all for the discussion. (not learned to use multiple quotes yet)
In the device the PGPSW.gpi file is 12.9 MB. Obviously, I can’t open it to see what’s in it. Just looked at the manual and will try the simulated GPS to see if anything turns up. Interesting that it works for some of you when browsing and not for others.
Regards,

Edit: Did run the simulated GPS but no icons showed up. Assume there is something wrong with the conversion. What I see in my working directory is what appear to be three sizes of BMP cameras. 1KB, 2KB and 6KB. I assume the 6KB ones are the 44x44. Don’t know what determines as to what shows up on the map. May be I need to start from scratch?

Dig out my 'spoon feed' tutorial.

Sounds like you have too much in the working folder

I used the PDF manual file to set it up. Did look if there was a 'spoon feed' tutorial but couldn't find it.
If I want to do it again, will I need to delete all from working directory?
Possibly gone wrong by clicking Unzip PGPSW database? Just need the camera files, add the 44x44 image and the sound file needed to working directory?

Thank you, I have that bookmarked and used it initially when I had the Garmin. That worked fine. Don’t think there is one for CSV Convereter.

I have re done the whole conversion and at least there are no rouge 1 and 2KB bmp files there this time, they are all 6KB. Still don’t show icons when browsing the map but will test it Friday on a trip to Wellington. Will be back to let you know the results.
Kind regards,
