I have recently been asked a question I could not answer as I'm not up to date with modern satnavs.

Are there any models that show a compass rose on the screen or something to indicate heading/direction, maybe similar to what can be seen in handhelds? The gentleman asking the question has done some looking but cannot find any.

This brings up my own question. How about a scale bar?

Maybe they are considered an extra distraction but it seems he is a helicopter pilot and as such can deal with airspeed, altitude, heading, fuel, engine, look out, where am I, airspeed, ....... This absence is annoying to him and maybe others also?

Many thanks and cheers.

The Garmin drive series has a compass icon that confirms north/south. You can also have a data field that gives your heading. There is also a scale bar on the map screen.

Does he cope with all those with other helicopters flying 20 feet in front, behind and at his side?

Many thanks for this, I will pass it on.

I would say if he was military then yes but it would go;
all of them, lookout, lookout, lookout, all of them again.

Many cheers
