With reference to topref's routing image.

On a second test (from the same starting point, but this time to 56, Bethania Road) the 3598 kept to the main road - I wonder why.

My 2460 at least does allow me to adjust Kew Garden's default speed down to 5 mph; at which point the 2460 route ignores Kew Gardens - (sarcastic) hooray.

Crackers innit!

That is a mapping problem.

"Here" have the average speed on that section of Bethania Road as less than 20 mph whilst the average speed for Kew Gardens is less than 30 mph. The Garmin is just calculating that Kew Gardens at 30 mph will be faster than Bethania Road at 20 mph and giving the fastest route that it can find with the data that it has available.

Edit: Actually looking at TopRefs comments above the map is probably correct and therefore the fastest route that can be calculated is probably the one offered by the Garmin. It will depend on how much time the Garmin adds for the right turns required to take the 30mph road.

Yes, agreed but (and there's always a but) it's ridiculous because take the time it takes to leave and rejoin the same road out of the equation, the saving is miniscule.

I am doing a journey tomorrow morning which is a re-run of one I took a few weeks ago. If it does the same as the first time, I shall stop the car and take several pictures and post them on here.

When I tried the route using Google maps it ignores Kew Gardens and stays on Bethania Road. If I put a via point in the middle of Kew Gardens it adds 2 minutes to the journey time. This is perhaps one extra minute for each right turn.

Perhaps the Garmin is not adding enough (or any?) time for right turns. I don't have the Garmin with me to experiment at the moment.

Thanks for the above information.

As a TomTom user, I used to submit map updates to TomTom MapShare Reporter however after a number of submissions (which were accurate) I had none accepted and certainly none appeared on the device's maps, so I stopped submitting on the basis that it was a waste of my time. How does MapCreator compare? Do they acknowledge your submissions and do those submissions get migrated to Garmin map updates?

Regards,

Robert,

I have also only recently moved from TomTom to Garmin.

The first edit that I made on HERE Map Creator was on 28 March this year. Its status is still shown as Under Review. The change was a simple addition of a new exit off an existing roundabout.

You don't get any acknowledgement of your submissions but they are recorded against your account and you can see the history of them when you are logged in.

As I have not had any submission reviewed yet (6 months seems a long review queue) it may be a similar waste of time to the TomTom version.

One the next map update, according to the person I submitted it for. Same I think for the other but can't be sure. French one still isn't there but that was a road being built that was on the map, I suspect HERE are now leaving it as it's due for completion shortly Very Happy

But if it isn't open, you should not be routed along it.

TomTom MapShare Reporter and Here/Garmin Map Creator are a great concept, but it doesn't matter how good they are IF genuine submissions are never processed or incorporated into the map data.

Whilst I apprecate that submissions need to be verified to maintain map data integrity I also need to see progress to any submissions I might make.

Unfortunately if I get annoyed by lack of progress or feedback then then potentially 1,000s of other people will feel the same and thus we all miss out on improving the map data.

Regards,

That's why I reported it as it was showing on HERE as open Laughing

Edit: Just checked and it is now open
