What does in mean when CA has a large darkened square overlaid over the map?

You have 'night mode' turned on in the settings.

See manual: http://www.cameralert.com/manual/ios part 6a

But this was weird - the overlay moved wth the map. I have a screen shot showing the overlay half on the map and half off it, and I could move it around by moving the map. Maybe just a glitch?

It it designed for driving rather than for manually moving around on the screen.

Can you confirm that it is glitching when driving as opposed to when manually moving the map?

I've had a similar situation using the Android version, several times. I just turn CA off, and then on again.

I put it down to CA not loading the map tile correctly. I've only ever noticed it on a long journey.

It doesn't happen often, so it didn't concern me much.

You're right, I was at home, experimenting not driving.
