Hi Talk, just wondering how you got on

Hi. Still no sound. I haven't had another go at the German site method yet, but it's a bit frustrating when you know it should work! Not given up.

Just tried to upload the asc files using the car-net website, loading them into POI's. Went for a spin but no good. Its a Discover Media gen2.

Hi Tripleh. Sorted my Mk7 GTI with the speed camera database yesterday. You need to link your car to a WLAN, either using a phone hotspot, or your home wi-fi. I found the home wi-fi to be the most stable. You can then download the POI's from Car-net. After that, you need to set up the Nav map menu to display your POI's, as it does not do that by default. There is also a toggle under Nav Anouncements for a sound for your POI's. HTHs!

Best way is for you to have a go, and then ask specific questions. It is a bit fiddly, but logical, once you get it!

Do you fancy grabbing some photo's and doing a step-by-step guide we can use for the installation?

MaFt

I would MaFt, but still having problems with the best way of loading the camera POI's. Useful to have the camera sites visual though!

Talk, why don't you start again? Go to the German website to load the POI's in csv format. Download them to you computer as a zip file. Unpack them to a USB and download straight to the car via USB. Then follow your own instructions to show the POI's on the map.

All cameras are then shown and give a little beepbeep sort of sound. Its just a shame voices cannot be added nor distance of warning.

OR, am I missing something with your problem?

Well, yes, I've tried doing all that. There just seems to be no way to get my Nav to load updates via SD card or USB. As I said, very frustrating, but I will keep trying, when I have the time.

Finally got POI's loaded via the German conversion site and an SD card, which has given me an alert sound for the camera sites. As mentioned earlier, the sound is not very strident and the range is only about 250 m, which is not enough to be safe for a camera, except the ones placed just around a corner. I will try to put together a simple guide, which will cover the Discover and Discover Pro satnav units fitted to a number of Volkswagen models.

My problem with loading the POI's from a card was caused by trying to load the file and folder for the Discover unit, which is contained within the folder that the German site delivers, as recommended by someone on another forum, rather than loading that folder and the file that comes with it, which the German site tells you to do.
