I'm sure this has been asked before but I have now come to the end of my tether with Tom Tom in relation to POI installation so seems Garmin is the next step.

I need a unit that will accept PGPSW Speed Camera POI's complete with the visual icons and 'warn when near' facility. In fact, similar to those which TT discontinued some time ago.

I would like to install up to 85 POI's in total (maybe even more if I can get away with it).

I used 'text to speech' in the past which was advantageous in my case too.

I never have, and don't intend driving on the continent or beyond so a unit with UK and ROI maps would be sufficient.

I'm not in a huge rush but are there iminent plans for a new breed of Garmin units?

At the moment I think the 2599LMT-D and it's bigger brother the 2699LMT-D are my pick. They are full Europe though.

They benefit from a single cable, unlike some units with a separate washing line type aerial. Also they have digital traffic and are fully compatible with the PGPSW cameras.

From where do they get the digital traffic. I don't mean the data source, I mean is it built in or does it need a connected smartphone etc.?

2 methods.

You can use the supplied power cable that is also the antenna. In the UK that receives INRIX traffic.

If you use Garmin Smartlink, that comes into the unit via a smartphone bluetooth connection and that uses ViaMichelin data.

By default it's the power cable but if you enable bluetooth and install Smartlink then it uses that.

What's the difference between the 2569LMT-D WE @ £129.99 and the 2599LMT-D WE @ $179.99? (Other than £50 Currys prices)
Also Halfords had a 2599LMT-D EU for £169.99. Is the only difference the map coverage.

Thanks for that guys. That's the only difference? £50 for voice control. I can do without that.
What about an oil repellent screen protector?

Do you have to wrap the power cable around the windscreen to get the traffic? How have you got yours.

Mine is mounted in the lower right corner, so cable comes across top of dash in front of steering wheel then drops down to power socket in centre console.

I have the 2569 and generally am happy with it now I have almost worked out how to use it properly, as coming from TT it is quite a learning curve. Traffic through the lead can be hit or miss for me though, about as reliable as the TT TMC lead. Doesn't matter if it is wrapped around the screen or wound up in the glove compartment, I still get regular bouts of "searching for provider". Can't use the Smartlink as my phone will only accept one bluetooth connection and I need that for my hands free.

Can you charge it out of the car with a bog std. USB cable?
Just ordered the 2569LMT-D WE from Currys for £129.99.
More questions later especially about the speed cam program as discussed above Very Happy

The supplied car charger with the 2599 is also the traffic attena, it does not have to be positioned anywhere special to receive the date. Mine comes from the rear passenger console, past the handbrake and gear lever up to the nuvi mount on the windscreen ,

Best to use the supplied USB cable to connect the2599 to a pc or other external source for charging, I have received many an onscreen message saying something like "your nuvi is not charging, please use the supplied USB cable "
