A friend sent me these pictures which show(well I think they are) a new type of digital speed camera that will be activated on the M25 J5 to J6. There is one set each direction, not at the same point.

They are mounted low and behind the direction of travel.

What do you guys think?

Also the comment is that the camera is only on one side and always taking a low rear picture ... I wonder if they have thought of lorries ... Rolling Eyes

There seem to be four cameras in total, one in each direction on two full-width gantries about a mile each side of Clacket Lane services. Don't know if they're approved but they are definitely flashing and at a fairly low threshold.

apparently they are active even when there is no reduction in national speed limit indicated ...

I suppose it will be 14days before people start reporting their £100 fines ...

The Sevenoaks Chronicle today says that they are live and deliberately left grey to make them hard to spot.

What is the legal status of grey cameras? Confused

They were certainly flashing this afternoon, although the traffic flow was below 70 mph...

Don't lorries have rear number plates that?

I traveled on this stretch yesterday towards M26 and and had a bright flash in my right eye. I am assuming that it was flashing on the other carriageway?

I regularly use the M25 passing between J5 & J7 and vice versa. The camera on the anti-clockwise direction between Clapton services and J5 is definitely active, every time I have passed going both ways it it has flashed at some motorists. The threshold seems incredibly low, 75 MPH max. A week last Sunday, there were no speed reductions indicated at the time, I was going dead on 70 when a chap was slowly overtaking me got flashed, he couldn't have gone more than 5 MPH more than me, we were the only cars in the area as it was early Sunday.

Now I'm worried because since it the roadworks finished I have drifted around up to 75 MPH while, it was not deliberate, but I much prefer to keep my eyes on the road rather than glance at the speedo every few seconds, situations ahead can change in milliseconds hence rather like to keep my eyes on the road ahead.

Also the cameras are quite low and how do they see through slower vehicles across 4 lanes of traffic and you usually get speed camera road markings, how do they know of the accuracy of your speed?

Cheers

10% + 2? That's only a recommendation to take different speedo's into account. Technically if you do 70.1mph on the motorway you are speeding and could be prosecuted.

@ paul1810 and ultimate
Do either of you know as a fact that they are active and enforceable speed cameras, as that's all that go in the PGPSW database. If you know the details, please enlighten the rest of us.
If you want to know which cams are in the database, then look at the submission map here
