Garmin have released the latest European maps today which moves the version up to 2014.20

Download either via Garmin Express or for those who dislike that program, use Garmin Mapupdater

Now its just as well the 3598 comes bundled with a 4GB micro SD card as this one will definitely not fit completely otherwise!

Yes the file is a lot larger than 2014.10 - I've listed the main file sizes from this and recent reversions (Full European Coverage).

I deleted many of the non English voices as well as non English Help files (ensure you don't delete the Image files) and Text files (ie keep en-GB.xxx) as these aren't relevant to me.

2014.20 - Gmapprom - 3,328,640
- JCV (D3048120A) - 379,870
- Gmap 3D - 699,680

2014.10 - Gmapprom - 3,235,328
- JCV (D3049110A) - 386,516
- Gmap 3D 651,104

2013.41 - Gmapprom - 3,126,912
- JCV (D3048100A) - 374,010
- Gmap 3D 633,616

You can delete around 35 non English voices which saves enough space for you to get the map on the main disk

Many of us will only need Western Europe, so a smaller file, about 2.3Gb Smile

Selecting a smaller region should mean that the JCV file is smaller - is this the case with your Western Europe JCV?

Garmin seem to be expanding their 3D coverage to many regional towns and sites rather than just London and a few football stadiums which they had in the past. Some of the hidden x.SID and X.DB files used in searches/POIs have also seen a large increase in size this time around - possibly linked to additional "real directions"

There's a few more on the motorways that I hadn't noticed before.

It is more of a gimmick than a necessity - can't help thinking it is much more use in the US than UK with our (only) 3 lane motorways compared to their many lane highways.

Really? Three lane motorways here in the UK? Wish most drivers knew that, they mainly seem to ignore lane one Laughing Laughing

PostPosted: Tue Sep 03, 2013 7:22 am    Post subject: Stretched Maps Reply with quote

I've just downloaded the 2014.20 Europe maps onto my computer to use in Basecamp and have noticed that they are stretched sideways (like Mapsource used to be). In Mapsource you could correct this using Ctrl Alt A.

Has anybody else noticed this and how can it be corrected in Basecamp please?

edit: I have just brought Basecamp up again and the problem has fixed itself. Odd!

edit2: Changing the stretch levels in Mapsource also affects Basecamp. Originally having downloaded the map, I tried it in Basecamp first (looked stretched). Went into Mapsource and corrected the stretch with Ctrl Alt A. Went back into Basecamp and the map is now correct. I then experimented with Mapsource by putting the stretch back in and it was back in using Basecamp as well.

That's correct ... It's a registry entry and if you change it in Mapsource it'll change it in Basecamp. I understand the next Basecamp version will allow amending it.

2014.30 has indeed been released by Garmin - much earlier than predicted as the update is usually mid November.
