Folks,
Living in North Wales surrounded by mobile speed trappers I need to know if
PGPSW can alert me if I exceed the speed limit.
I had thought my Snooper GPS would do this but is seems it just turns red with no audible warning.

| Yes it does. But only if you are exceeding the limit for a camera. It won't warn you about ordinary speed limits. It is a speed camera warning database after all. |

Many thanks for your response. My need was for an audible alert which would sound in limits especially those with all types of camera including mobiles.
Snooper gives a 200 yard warning of a trap in a 30 limit which is clearly not enough as police using camera vans are trapping at greater distances than that, usually ( in my area) just as we round slight bends which conveniently hide the vans from view. One newly lowered limit, from 60 to 30 mph has resulted in around 100 folks being caught in a few months at one site alone.
Most that I have spoken with say they were caught at below 40 mph which suggests the speed limit, based on the 85th percentile, should have been set at 40 mph.
Does PGPSW give an audible warning in the circumstances above?

Yes and you can set the distances for fixed and mobile sites separately which would suit your requirements.
The above info is as long as we are talking about the CamerAlert app for a smartphone. If we are talking about the PGPSW speed cam database (also confusingly and ridiculously called CamerAlert), then it entirely depends on the nav software/hardware into which it is loaded.
If you are thinking about the smartphone version, give it a go. It's free to try, but £20/year for the updates. |

I will need to buy a smart phone; I have a Nokia Asha 300 at present but was about to uprade anyway.
I have been looking on this site for a list of supported phones. Can you tell me where to find it. The Motorola Moto G was on my list.
I may need some help to get the PGSPW stuff working; I am not very techie but seem to struggle through.

There are that many android phones, it would be impossible to compile a list. If it has GPS and mobile data then you will be fine. Full manual here: http://www.cameralert.com/manual/android

You don't even need mobile data, if you just want the warnings.

How would you download the updates without it? And come to think of it, how would you download the app to start with?  |

Am I correct in thinking that none of my mobile data allowance would be used on a daily basis as the system uses GPS for mapping and camera sites? |

| If you use the map display, then yes, it will use data. If you use the list display or run it in the background it does not use data. (Only when you update the database) |

I can't see on the PGPSW site the exact procedure for downloading to a smartphone. From what you say, the CamerAlert is for smartpones and another CamerAlert is for sat navs. That correct?
Can you direct me to the app for phones, please?
