Hi,

My 18 month old Live 1000 has started acting up recently. Firstly the battery died (not that unusual with a Tom Tom) but it's managed to kill the replacement as well. It's as if it is continually draining the battery regardless of if the unit is on and off.

But now Live has stopped working. Just cannot connect. I have 8 months of subs left but the unit cannot establish any kind of connection. Have done a hard reset, put all the information again. As far as it is concerned it has no connection but it does claim it has a mobile signal.

Time to bin it? This'll be the second Tom Tom in a row that has suffered a horrible death and my Fathers unit also bricked itself a few weeks back.

How come my original Go 100 from 2005 still works fine, no battery changes, nothing apart from a map and software update?

If you look at the reviews on Amazon many people are experiencing the same thing. Just what are Tom Tom doing?

Any help appreciated. I'm just about ready to drop kick this 1000 into next week!

Cheers.

The GPRS modem won't work if the battery is knackered, as the modem takes spikes of current that are more than the USB supply can directly handle.

Maybe you fitted a bad battery?

It could also be a validation problem with the Tomtom servers, but you need to contact Tomtom support.

That's probably it then. Still don't know how it managed to kill a second battery in a week or so though.
