OK, I've been chatting with Code Monkey about this and the most logical method is NOT to detect when the phone has an active call but instead to see when it is not 'off the hook'.

Checking for the phone being off the hook doesn't require any new permissions either.

Before making ay alerts we can check if the phone is off the hook; if it is then we can play the alert as normal. If it is NOT off the hook (i.e. a call is in place) then we can change the alert to a gentle 'ding ding' to announce the alert without being too overbearing.

Would this work for you?

That would be great. would prefer mute but certainly if thats not possible a simple ding ding is much better then 2 conversations going on at the same time from the same source.

i must admit i cant believe i ask if its possible to add an option to the app and i cause world war 3. I simply wanted the option added, its up to the indvidual if they use it. i am sure i am not the only one who would like it, though we may be in the minority. I think next time ill email the support team direct and then if they wish to throw it open to public discussion to see how popular or unpopular it is they can

Well, perhaps we need to simplify things by not giving user options? Go the Apple way and tell the user what the app does instead of allowing customisation.

It'd make the settings much simpler for a start...

Just in case you are thinking of sticking this in the iOS version for iPhone, my vote goes against. And I'm in favour of Ali's request for a table of archive versions to choose from as I have similar concerns with CamerAlert on iPhone.

I prefer the current warning as is while on a call.

I am sure a ding-ding would be more distracting as the user is then tempted to start looking at the phone and possibly having to change screens (when I receive a call on my Desire HD it puts all other apps in the background) to see what the alert is for.

The warnings are short enough to not interfere with a short conversation so if something is done then a volume decrease would be my preference.

It is possible to mute background apps when a call comes in as my audiobook/podcast player does just that.

MaFt,

thanks for taking the time to look into this but judging by the comments i think unless it can be made an option that you had best leave it alone. I knew i would be in a minority but i didnt think i would be a minority of 1 Very Happy My thoughts are as its a phone that the phone function should take precedence over everything, obviously others prefer certain apps to take precedence so i obviously bow down to the majority. But once again thanks for at least looking at it.[/img]
