I have just bought a Garmin Etrax and have got it to work with Memory Map 2003 with full UK maps on a laptop.
What would be useful is a postcode application so I can type one in and see where it is. Does such a program exist for the PC? (apart from multimap)
Also, is mapsource recomended considering I have memory map? what can it do that MM cann't?

Here is a rather long-winded way to show the location of a PostCode on MM 2003 using CodeSearch and POIConverter which are programs from the Downloads area on this website (in the POI Icons and Converters | PC section).

1. Run CodeSearch to create a TomTom Navigator overlay file (OV2) which will contain the lat/long values for the PostCodes that you enter.

2. Run POIConverter to convert the OV2 file to a Maptech Marks file (MXF) which you can then import into MM.

Not a quick process. You will either have to import a file to set Marks or create a Mark on the map and edit its properties, so the process is never going to be very slick.

I have both MM OS 2004 and MapSource. I use MapSource to load maps onto my eTrex Legend. The MapSource maps are more accurate and detailed than the base map on the eTrex. Much depends on which model eTrex you have and what else you want to use it for.

I have an old version (v 4) of European MetroGuide. This also supports a GPS so it can be used to track position by running it on your laptop. MapSource uses vector maps so you will not get all the topographical detail that MM shows.

Using Metroguide it is possible to search for an address with a postcode. However, I have just tried entering my postcode and it did not work Sad
