Hi,

I have a tt940, I was just wondering, do the postcodes on the unit get updated when you update the map? I have signed up for the quarterly updates and wondered if there is any point of installing the codes earlier in the thread?

thanks in advance for any replies.

No, they don't get updated. You should download the file quoted above, and unzip it into your "zip" folder.

That's a matter of conjecture at the moment.....
If you look at the latest maps when they have been downloaded to an OLD model (so you can see the contents) then there is a new file in the map folder that LOOKS like it is to do with postcodes.
That file doesn't get used on the older models, but it MIGHT be getting used on the new ones like the Go1000/1005.

Not easy to check though, until we have some examples of codes that were definitely wrong on v880 and that are corrected on v885.

All submissions welcome!

I think that postcodes which differ between 880 and 885 postcode files are going to be hard to find because the file is only 1 byte different in size!

I don't know much about the new models, does the map data still get downloaded to the PC (where we can see it) before it is pushed to the device?

Yes, with the regular TomTom home devices save it to the the PC before dumping it on the TomTom!

Yes, but what about the new devices, do map updates still get saved on the PC before they a dumped to the device where they can't be seen?

Ok, thanks. If you have one of these new, locked down devices do you know what map version (and therefore probably what postcode file version) was on it when you bought it? It should be easier to identify changes in the postcode file between a fairly old version and the latest version.

On the TomTom Home devices the information on Navcore & Map versions is available directly from the device & imagine it's the same for the 1000/1005 et al

If we could find someone who knew that their 1000/1005 device came with a map version of say 850 then it would be likely to have postcode file version 850 on it.

If they have now updated to map version 885 and we can identify a postcode which has changed between version 850 and 885 postcode files then we can check if it is changed on the device. This seems to be the only way to find out if the postcode file is being updated on the locked down devices.

Our Certified Genesis said you could, and 885 postcodes work on my 860WE map.

AB101AA is not in the latest 885 postcode file but was in 880, 875 and 870.

So if someone with one of the new locked down devices (GO1000 etc) and the latest 885 map could check if they have the postcode AB101AA then we will know if those devices are now using the new postcode files contained within the updated map.

Nope, my 885 updated GO1000 does not recognise AB101AA.
