SatMap allows the addition of comments to waypoints on routes. One would assume that the intent of such comments would be to offer the opportunity to add directions to the waypoint, e.g. "Cross stile". However, as far as I can discover, the only way to view these comments on the Active 10 is via the Edit Waypoints sub-menu of the Route Edit menu. This is less than helpful. Sad

Has anyone found a way to see these comment while viewing routes in the Map display?

The first 12 or so characters will appear in white writing with a black back ground as you approach the way point or if you move the cursor over the waypoint. You will need to ensure that within settings that you have "Show titles on maps" set to "ON".

If you click on a waypoint it will bring up the Information box, scroll to Route, click the joystick then click on profile (Left lower button) you will then see the full description of the waypoint you can use the joystick to scroll left and right along the profile and see all the descriptions.

You may not know but you can download directions from google maps and google earth into satmap. See the satsync user guide for instructions, for some reason it is not covered in the main sat map manual.

Hope this helps

Gibbo,

Thanks for your assistance.

Funny, I only see the Waypoint ID, not the Comments. What am I missing?

Unfortunately, I find this somewhat impractical. First, because I seem to be unable to determine if there is comment, I'd have to check at every waypoint to see if there is a comment. Second, returning from the profile sets the screen to show the full route on the screen, thus (for a long route) showing it a very large scale. It takes for ever to get back to the original scaling.

I guess I'd expect (hope?) that this would work like the POI description, where the description appears directly when we click the joystick on the POI name in the information box. I guess this is only a hope? Smile

Sorry i hadn't read your original posting correctly I didn't pick up that you wanted to use the comments box. The best way is to change the waypoint ID (name) to direction e.g WPT1 change to "turn right", then it will work as I described i.e. appear on screen.

However comments also appear in the profile as I described.

You shouldn't need to keep rescaling afterwards. Once you have viewed the profile click "back"and it will take you back to the planning screen which does show the route in one screen. However if you then press the map button it will take you back in to the GPS map at the scale you were originally viewing at.

I agree this is a bit clunky.

I thought of that, but a maximum of 12 characters displaying (including waypoint ID) would be very limiting.

True. Challenge is to identify that there is a comment. The best solution I have come up with is to add a star (asterisk) to the end of the waypoint ID if there is a comment.

I usually prepare my routes in Quo2, then export them as .gpx files. Adding the star prior to export from Quo would have to be done manually, and would upset the automatic numbering of Quo. So I've prepared a little Windows utility that reads the .gpx file prior to SatSync conversion, automatically adding the star if there is any comment associated with the waypoint. Anyone interested in this may contact me.

You're probably right. I've been testing here in Indonesia, without a map. So if I return to Map, it displays the local area. I can check this next week when I return to the UK.

As I say, sad that it doesn't work like the POI comments.

Why do you need the way point ID? You could overtype that in Quo and it won't affect anything unless you use the ID for other purposes.

However as you are a Quo user and you like the way POIs work try this.

Draw your route in Quo as normal.

Then right click on the route and convert it to "waypoint set"

Click on waypoint set in the QUO explorer window then in the 02 Notes box Enter your directions (satmap treats notes as comments. If you want to you could change the name to the direction as well.

Delete the waypoints without comments, if you hold CRTL you can bulk select the ones to delete then export both the route and the Waypoint set and then import the file into satmap.

You will end up with the POIs overlaid on top of the route waypoints. Now you know which waypoints have directions if you click on one of them they will appear in the info box. if you click on the waypoint you will see the comments as you do with POI's. If you have changed the name of the POI to the instruction this will appear on screen as you get near and as the title of the POI in the info box.

Wow! That's a GREAT solution! Thanks so much

Although it's not a real hassle to set up, I think I'll have a go at writing a little program to automate this, using the Quo GPX file as the base, just for the fun of it. This would also allow for a custom icon for the route marker.

Again, Gibbo, many thanks for your assistance with this!

(BTW, sorry for duplicated posting yesterday - the computer 'hung' the fisrt time and I thought it didn't go through. I couldn't find a way to delete the second one)

Could you not just edit the text to read 'Error' or something similar? Very Happy
