It's hard to get overly excited at the prospect of yet another car mount. I've tested dozens over the years and whilst some are better than others, they've all used the same windscreen suction design which, for the most part, does the job, albeit with the occasional failure to grip.

So when the Exomount arrived I was a little bit 'meh' about the whole thing. What could this mount offer that those that had passed before didn't?

The package proclaimed its 'patented suction technology' and its polyurethane lined grip but nothing screamed out as new or interesting. Until I opened it and tried it that is!

How did you find the wobble and slack ball joint that others report on Amazon?

In the promo video, they reverse the mount and use the jaws in an air vent and the sucker on the back of a kindle. Do you think it would be strong enough to hold an ipad?

Thanks!

Not observed any of that. I read the Amazon reviews and looked for that issue but failed to find it.

It's very solid, much less vibration than other mounts of a similar design and no need to rest the base of your phone on the dash to stop vibration etc.

The suction base is more than strong enough to attach and hold an iPad but I wouldn't want to use the jaws to attach it to a vent, too heavy.

Fine for use as a stand to hold the iPad at an angle when reading on a desk etc

I purchased one as I was fed up of others falling off screens and some not being able to "fit" in the vehicle I was driving(deep raked screens and the like) . Superb mount....I use it on the window in wife's car and the dash on my Campervan.... I use for a smartphone with Offline Sat Nav .... , not 10/10 cheap but you probably will never buy another mount...and if I add up what I have spent on mounts over a few years this one would still be going and worked out cheaper...

For iPad mount I suggest you use the 7.5" bracket available on ebay

HERE

Ah nice find, if that uses the same base (as it appears to) then that would be superb.

Looks good and would help my wife who has a mini with a very curved windscreen which the current tomtom mount struggles to attached to.
One point though is it doesn't seem to cater for devices that have a power point in the centre of the bottom of teh device.
I wuld have t measure teh device to see if teh mount can 'grab' it from the sides

Plenty of scope to have it grip to one side or the other.

Well I got one and rather disappointingly, it does NOT grip a textured dashboard of a 2010 Skoda Octavia, it falls off. Evil or Very Mad

I bought one of these and was one who gave an indifferent review on Amazon. I found that with the Iphone 4 in a heavy case that the thing dropped down as the tightening ring was not tight enough.
I told the firm who sent me out another one straight away and the replacement is excellent. I returned the old one. They said that some of the early ones were not a tight fit. I love it because it fits my phone with a bulky case.
