As long as the manufacturers can adapt then I'm sure the PND market will continue. To be honest though, I'm getting a bit fed up of seeing TOM TOM continually bring out new models neither of which seem to feature any new technology ... if anything less; all it seems just to warrant a new higher price that lasts for x months before they bring out another replacement!

If TOM TOM want to stay ahead of the competition and more importantly, smart phones like the iPhone, they really need to start making their units more sexy, improve battery life, reduce costs and greatly improve display resolution/graphics. I say that because the map we see today hasn't changed in the last 10 years ... my TOM TOM 5" XXL still doesn't draw curved roads, the graphics are antiquated and the mounting bracket - lets just say I've nearly smashed it to bits on many an occasion due to frustration! I cant even personalize anything to any sort of degree.

Dont want to see MP3 features etc ... just want to see a great PND with 2011 graphics and a bit more though into design, features and pricing. In the future I predict all PND's no more than £99 ... I mean, look at the power of the iPod Touch; and that's pretty close to that price!

Whatever happens Its inevetable that smartphone Satnavs will have an effect on Pnd sales, how much depends on the manufactures, following the previous comment it probably shows Tomtoms lack of forethought in not investing in the Andoid market when they dropped the Windows versions,
personally I am using ttn7 on a pda and also sygic on android and only use PDA mainly because of screen size but while its still usefull at the moment anything could change in the next year or so.

I've been looking at both solutions recently due to my Talex subs expiring.

Getting the likes of a HTC Wildfire came into the equation but I was put off with the possible ongoing data charge and continual battery charge scenario.

I'm now going down the Garmin route to replace the Talex as I don't see how Novus can provide free accurate camera updates from just unit sales alone.

Have the cheapy LG Optimus gt540 Android(£99) with integral gps reciever running Sygic MM10 works perfect with no data charges only problem i find for full time use is the slightly small screen 3" compared with the asus 3.5 whixh for me is the minimum.

Even though I have iPhone I keep using my Mio's sat nav while traveling in the car. But I use the navigation app on my phone while cycling on the bicycle.

I have a N8 that I got early December last year and I had to return it as it wouldn't stay connected for any length of time. On return it's, so far, behaved itself.
I have a subscription for camera alerts and I wondered if anyone has tried a download to the N8. The database suggests it works on the 95, 96 but I've no desire to possibly screw up my phone by downloading an incompatible version.
My PDA has Tom Tom and seems to work better for sat nav than the N8 but it does mean carrying two bits of kit.
Any advice gratefully received.
