My Asus R300 is damaged beyond repair.
I have the iGO 8 software which I am happy with.
Does anyone know where I can get a suitable, reasonably priced (2nd hand is fine) PDA, with built in GPS, to run my software on?

These seem good value with free delivery:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/165376

or do you specifically need a PDA ?

Thanks for this. It looks like a good deal

I don't need the PDA. Will just need a microSD to SD converter.
Has anyone tried this combination (iGO8 and MyGuide?

you would need to hack the myguide in order to put your own softwrae on it.

from memory though the myguide units DID use igo anyway. however, they went bust a while back so don't expect much in the way of support!

That's correct, they have gone bust hence the price, but there will still be a one year warranty from the supplier.

The reviews on the suppliers page show lots of purchasers have installed iGO on them so they must be reasonably easy to hack.

Apparently all that's needed are these three steps:

1. Add the following to the sys.txt file:
[rawdisplay]
screen_x=480
screen_y=272

2. Create a shell.ini file in the root of the SD Card with only the following in it:
\sdmmc\iGO8\iGO8.exe

(if you have application.dat on the SD Card rename it to iGO8.exe)

3. Disconnect, turn off and turn on using the switch on the back, NOT the one on the top.

I'd be interested to know what you think of it, and if you have any problems installing iGO on it.

Nearly there.
Made the amendments suggested above (although the igo8.exe is called igopna on mine. Now seeing the maps, and have resized the screen.

Now I need to find out what the GPS settings (port and baud rate) need to be set to.

The MyGuide 4200 settings are:
port 6
baud rate 9600

You could try these for the 4228, they might work. Wink

Thanks for the suggestion.
Just found port 7 baud rate 38400 on another web site, and that seems to work.

Everything now looks OK, but I won't know for sure until I am in the correct country.

Pretty much as suggested above:

shell.ini changed
\SDMMC\MobileNavigator\MobileNavigator.exe
to
\SDMMC\PNA\igopna.exe

sys.txt

Added
[rawdisplay]
screen_x=480
screen_y=272

Changed
[gps]
port=2
baud=57600

to
[gps]
port=7
baud=38400
