Did you get the logs ok? Sent them to you and Mike but had no reply.

Have the same problem on a 3GS and iPhone4 too.

got some logs, but most of them revolve around "not enough memory on the device" - not really surprising with iOS4 on the poor iPhone 3G. We are discussing how we can cut the footprint of the application - haven't got any good ideas yet though.

can you replicate the issue on a freshly rebooted 3G (without having started mail, ipod or safari)?

mail auto-starts in iOS4... which is kinda bad as people with it set to manually download (eg to save on data charges) can be caught out for data-usage...

still, without ipod or safari may also make a difference!

iPhone 3GS with iOS4
I just downloaded cameras and finished up with this....

Server: 8.072 (27820)
Device: 8.072 (0)

Normally it shows a number in brackets after Device. During download, it shows Download complete and Processing "Device None (counting up and gets beyond 27,000 but ends with 0).

I've downloaded again several times and no different. Being at home, not moving, I'm not getting any cameras showing right now.

My iPhone, which belongs to someone who will soon not be 70, must have been having a senior moment. Before going through the delete/redownload and install process I tried one more time and got a result this time. Nearby camers are showing too. AWTEW.

Hi All, New to this forum and new to Iphones, normally I'm using TomTom on an HTC Touch HD windows smartphone with the pocket GPSworld speedcams database.

I've had an Iphone 3GS 8MB running iOS4 for a week now and installed Navigon 1.6 and also the Cameralert apps, hoping to replace my HTC TomTom combo.

I was expecting to be able to run Navigon and Cameralert side by side as I understood multitasking was possible on iOS4 (or is that just on the iphone4?) - but it seems to be either I run Navigon for sat nav or I run Cameralert but not both together

Am I expecting too much of the system or am I doing something wrong?

If all else fails I'll have to revert back to the HTC for driving directions.

thanks in advance for any help & advice given...........

CamerAlert doesn't multitask yet AFAIK. You'll need to start a multitasking SatNav program first, then CamerAlert to get the alerts. If you switch away from CamerAlert you'll have to reopen it again to get the alerts.

I think I also read that there are memory issues on the 3G and 3GS, which can cause programs to quit. So it might be that loading Navigon and CamerAlert is too much for the phone, and Navigon quits.

We're beta testing v1.2 at the moment that adds multitasking as well as a few minor changes etc.

Hopefully it won't be too long!

It will work "just fine" (tm) on the 3GS. As was mentioned above multiasking is not supported on the 3G, and it has not enough RAM anyhow for two memory hogging apps at the same time. (CamerAlert needs to keep the database open which uses up about 5 MB - too much for the 3G)

Thanks for the replies guys - I'll try running Navigon first which does support multitasking and then fire up cameralert to see if that works.

Happy to wait for the upgrade to pass beta - no doubt it will be worth the wait, if the windows mobile performance with Tom Tom is any kind of benchmark......... just don't hang about with it Wink

Have to say this Iphone is the dogs wotsits compared to the HTC, just wish the apps were a bit more integrated, but it sounds like its coming.

I've recently got an iPhone 4 and have been trying out the camera alert app. So far (touch wood) all seems good, and I've not had any problems. I particulalry like the average speed calculation when going through Specs cameras, and the ease of downloading the camera database.

A couple of thoughts / comments for future versions:
- I don't particularly like the graphics used to show the type of camera on the screen. Too me they appear to be too big, and from a distance with a quick glance while driving I don't find it easy to distinguish between all the camer types. Could there be an option to have simple small camera icons on the map (similar to those that appear on my Garmin 310)?
- The HUD option doesn't appear to do anything on the iPhone 4. I was expecting the display to switch to mirror writing mode, but this doesn't seem to be the case?

looking forward to a multitasking version that can run in the background with a SatNav App.

thanks - keep up the good work

you need to lay it flat, for example on your dashboard, then it will do the mirror-writing. then, when you pick it up, it will revert to normal mode so you can read it still Very Happy

Works here. Takes a second or 2 before it switches...
