I purchased a nuvi 610 a few years ago and other than a problem that garmin fixed under warranty I've had no problem with it. Now however after it's been on and used for about 20 minutes it looses sattelite reception. Once this has happened it never acquires them properly again. This can happen both out in the open and in towns. To try and carry on with the journey I have to switch it on and off several times or raise and lowwer the antenna, not ideal when your driving. Hence I need to stop when I can to try and "make it work" again. When it does track the sattelites after this it only holds them for a couple of minutes. I have tried resetting the device several times but this doesn't make any difference.
It is running the latest software and the only thing that is stored on it is the pocket gps speed camera database, (still haven't got a lifetime subscription). All other POI's are kept on a memory card, which makes no difference to the problem whether inserted or not.
I have never dropped it or kicked it, however tempted I might be when driving. Although after using it last time he thought of running it over did cross my mind  . It has always been kept out of the heat and cold so I don't understand what may have caused this.
Any ideas???? Wanted to ask hear before I have to send it to garmin.

See this web-site for a detailed description of the problem.
If a repair is necessary, it may be cheaper to send it to to the States ... rather than Garmin UK. (I'm guessing Garmin will want £60+ to repair it). There are some 3rd-part UK-based repairers around, but none of them seem to offer competitive prices.
You may be able to repair it yourself, by buying a faulty Nüvi off eBay (one with a damaged screen, for example) and making one good one, out of two broken ones. Alternatively, you could sell your faulty one and put the money towards a new unit (you'd probably get somewhere between £20~£30 pounds for it...) |

I'd hazard a guess it's a faulty flip up antenna connection.
Had similar on a quest a few years ago.
Don't know how much Garmin will charge to fix but it might be time to bin it. |
