I am still on map 815.2003 and firmware 8.30 on my TT720. After all the problems people had when the firmware was updated way way back, last year ?, I have never bothered to update. Device works fine and I have never had a problem finding where I want to go. Sure, there may be better routing algorithms , probably not or even the odd junction thats now a roundabout, but I've never had one....yet.

So, all in all, am I really missing anything ?

No. I would wait until at least the next complete version comes out before updating. As you know they will never be bang up-to-date. So if you are happy with your map as you seem to be then stick with it Laughing

Did they ever fix the stuttering voice problem ?

Not trusting TT updates has become a way of life for me. I might downlaod the next version when we start driving on the right hand side of the road Laughing

They improved it a bit, but then it's difficult to quantify as some people (myself included) never had much trouble with it.

I also never had a problem with the mp3 jukebox stuttering when a voice message came along on the 720, but I do now on the 940 (much worse when using a TTS voice).

Basically, I'd say:
1. if it ain't broke, don't fix it, or
2. so long as you always make good backups with Windows Explorer, not Home, you can experiment with ALL the software versions, without fear of not being able to get back where you were.

Use answer 1 or 2 Laughing

Cheers.

I agree with 1 & 2. It ain't broke so I won't fix it...and yes, I aways do backups using Explorer. Pretty much confirming what I thought, both replies tell me that.

Leave it!

I'm not into exprimenting with Tom Tom stuff like this.....it always ends in tears

What exactly is meant by "stuttering"? Is this where the voice during phone conversations suddenly starts to repeat the last syllable non stop, and only by resetting can it be stopped? If so, my 740 Live does it. Is it possible it has anything to do with particular phones or does it happen with all phones?

The stuttering I was talking about was of the navigation voice itself ("computer" or text to speech voice).

I know the other problem with hands-free calls happens as well, but I don't know what that most often gets called. ("stutter/lock-up" in THIS TOPIC)
