TT's explanation of the error seems to be completely plausible to me ( a retired programmer IT manager) so that English Bas is a key to instruct the program to produce the email from the English database. The fact that it leaked out to customers clearly indicates the very poor standards of program testing, as something as basic as this should never have managed to get past the very first test, so I can only assume it was not tested at all?

Perhaps the same standards are used for most of the other software development that would explain why many things go wrong with updates from TT.

There are no new maps - there will be in about two months. These emails, so I am told, were sent out in error.

I just got the original "Dear English Bas" email - hours after the apology email was sent. Rolling Eyes Jesus wept, what a way to run a railroad.

My support ticket says I have the latest map and that the first e-mail to 'English Bas' was a test that had gone out in error.

The fact that they sent a second e-mail apologising for the first and then reiterated the offer of a new map beggars belief!

So TomTom have now apologised - fair enough. However, since the explanation given in their apology differs from the explanation they gave in their original excuse, would it be terribly uncharitable of me to assume that at least one of those explanations must be a lie?

And the daft bunch haven't managed to remove it from that web address yet either.

I wonder whether the invitation wasn't actually for a new map after all, but to some kind of social event at a brewery. It would be a shame to see such organisational skill going to waste.

I took this message in two ways,

1 miss addresses, ok that happened i can live with that

2 Miss Representation, i Think they are trying to get people to renew their subscription now when there is no new map. most of us took advantage of the subscription service last year we all got the new map a few weeks ago and if you’re like me have not renewed your sub and are not planning to until a new map is avail ( they are not getting my money until they have something to sell )

So they got desperate or greedy and tried to con us with claims of a new map that just is not there. I have written to them advising them i will be reporting them to Trading Stds, Watchdog ect if they don’t make me an offer of compensation

Please do the same if you can see my point of view

I'd ask why they are discriminating against you?? :-)

More generally, I think that the idea of the email is to notify those users (and I know the idea is difficult to understand! Laughing ) who don't follow the forums on a daily basis and don't plug their TT into Home on a daily basis (that bit I CAN understand! Laughing ). This would be the only notification that they would get. Now some would argue that they must be able to tell if you have downloaded the map, that they COULD target the emails only to those who have NOT downloaded the map. Ah, where would be the fun in that?
