Yes that is irritating. I also use this feature for my multi drop delivery job and liked to be able to navigate to just the street/postcode without having to input a house number.

I have just reported it to the tomtom beta people. We have been testing this release for a few weeks now, and I myself had noticed this annoying change.

It does however appear to have killed my Tripmaster installation. Will look through the forum at previous fixes for this sort of thing

Tripmaster (and any other plugins using the screen) are not compatible with v8.350.

This new navcore version introduces a new way of screen refreshment which makes the screen always redrawn by navcore, even if another application is running in foreground.

I'm really afraid it's the end of third party plugins on Tomtom...

Just at the moment where all devices manufacturers are all launching their "app store" to provide their users a way of installing easily third-parties apps on their devices. I'm really disappointed of this strategic error from Tomtom...

I entirely agree, I never understood their decision to revoke the SDK and changes such as this are even harder to fathom.

Surely allowing 3rd party development would bring users to TomTom and encourage existing customers to stay!

I have just allowed tthome to update my Go720 and all I can say is that I am glad that I have kept a backup of the pre- updated software from my device.

I find that most items are now "greyed out" on tthome and if I try to use them I am told that my device does not support the feature.

I will now await a further update from tomtom to put all the items back either into tthome or the go 720 application data

Jonial,
Before you ditch 8.35 completely, disconnect the GO720 and then reconnect. TT Home should then offer to download the new dll files. With these installed, the greyed out items should be working again.

The other possibility is that your home account is confused as to what device you are using. Have you upgraded to the GO720 recently from an earlier TT PND?

Hi gareth71
The snag that you have on your device is rather worrying. However, I cant see that the new navcore could bring about the symptoms that you are experiencing, but I suppose anything is possible.
Personally I would format the Tomtom and then paste the backup back to your device. If that doesn’t cure things then I would suspect the device itself.

Steveee

Thanks for the reply

This tomtom was purchased recently and has its own account in tthome.

I am using a 4Gb SDHC memory card and have both the application and map ver 825.2157 on this card and the tomtom uses the card which allows the internal memory to be a backup only.

I have now done the update again onto the card with the same results.

When I connect to tthome it immediately tells me that an update is available for my device but is unable to locate and download it.

Should I perhaps do the update onto the internal memory?

Must be a moral somewhere

Yeah Mike, have reset it 3 times by pressing the button down and also reset it from main menu, it just wont find any satellites

Same here, then I was out with my TomTom, it found satellites in couple of seconds.
Resetting, disconnecting and reconnecting it finally downloaded the new dll for the Home, too.
Every update brings some new tricks to the users to complete, Do they like to keep us nerds? Shocked

Perhaps it'll change later, they made the FM directions work again.

The Traffic seems to be working in the Home display now. Indeed, definitely now live. That didn't work before, except when it wasn't working on the unconnected device.

Hi Trevor. That's pretty much my thinking, to be honest. I've tried erasing everything off the TT and copying it back from my known good v8.302 backup, and the problem still exists, despite the fact that it definitely didn't prior to the v8.350 upgrade - that's what makes me suspect that the upgrade has something up.

I've raised a support ticket with Tomtom, so I'll see what they have to say about it. If they can't offer anything useful, I'll try a reformat. I might even try going back to the 'out of the box' backup that I made before I did anything to the unit when I first had it (which would take it to v7.something) - but I'll have to wait until I get to work later - that backup is on one of the PCs in the office (I had the unit delivered to work, and being the impetuous sort of fella that I am I couldn't wait until I got home to start playing with it! ;)).

Changes I've observed not noted here:

On Browse Map--Options--the screen(s) are different. There is now an 'Advanced' button. Also (short-term memory here) did it offer to show lat/long before? Does now.

The "Advanced" button is because they ran out of space for options and needed another screen. Lat/Long display has always been there (well.. since the beginning of v7 software anyway! Smile )

Also, in Navigate to -- poi category, it used to show all custom ov2 categories at the top and then you scrolled down to the built in.

Now, the custom are merged (alpha) with the built in.

Are you sure?
I'm 95% sure my custom POIs were always mixed in (alphabetically) with the built-in ones.

Yep, Andy, on my 720 anyway the custom ov2 files were always clumped at the beginning, never merged.
