Glad to hear things are working OK.

Was the procedure like this:

Backup
Disk Error check
Delete application files
etc.
etc.
Run Clear Flash tool

I tried this and it didn't work unfortunately, might be tempted to try again if that was what you did.

More or less. Took me the best part of a hour to do it and at one point I thought I'd screwed it right up (just had tomtom logo showing and wouldn't go any further, a soft reset sorted that) but it came through in the end.

I was very sceptical I must say but you live and learn.

Nice with cream..... this humble pie.

Gerry.

Can you copy and paste their entire instructions, Gerry?

There might be something subtly different?

I'll PM you the transcript

A point to note is, I did this using the internal memory. When finished I copied the files (not the folders) to the sdcard and it just worked.

Good luck.

Don't worry, it wasn't that I needed it myself, I just thought their instructions might add something to the accumulated knowledge on here. Smile

Sorry, already PM'd you.

I'll stick it on here as well in case it is of any use to anyone.

As requested.

Start.

If you require further assistance, please read below and follow the steps below to reinstall your software and resolve the issue. We appreciate that this may look a little bit involved, but the steps below are necessary to cover all eventualities.

STEP 1 Install the latest version of TomTom Home

If you haven't already done so, please download and Install the latest version of TomTom Home

STEP 2 Make a Backup

- Connect your TomTom to your computer and switch it on
- On a PC, create a new folder on your desktop and call it Backup

- On a PC, Open My Computer, you will see the TomTom as a removable storage device, e.g. TomTom E:, double left click into it.
- Click on Edit, Select All, then click on Edit, Copy
- Go to your Backup folder on your desktop that you have created, double left click into it and click on Edit, Paste

IMPORTANT: We advise you to follow the next steps ONLY if you have made a successful backup of your device as described in Step 2. If you are unable to complete step 2, please reply back to this email and let us know what happens.

STEP 3 Run a Disk Error check

- Click Start, My Computer and then right-click the removable drive for your TomTom device.
- Click Properties.
- Select the Tools tab.
- Under Error checking click Check Now...
- Tick both boxes and then click Start.

STEP 4 Delete the Application Files

- Open My Computer in Windows, you will see the TomTom as a removable disk. Double click into it.
- You will see a list of yellow folders and a list of loose files
- Delete all of the loose files. IMPORTANT: The YELLOW folders with their content must NOT be deleted.
- Now we need to disconnect your TomTom from the computer. Please use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the bottom right hand corner of your computer to disconnect your TomTom from the computer.
• Once disconnected, your TomTom will show a red cross.

STEP 5 - Now we need to delete the application files from your PC so that HOME will offer them as an update

• Now on your Computer, in the system tray, (in the bottom right hand corner by the time, there is a little red TomTom HOME logo, if its not there, click on the little arrow pointing towards left to show all the hidden icons). Right click on the TomTom logo and select exit.
• Click on Start in the bottom left of your PC
• Now select My documents - TomTom, HOME, Downloads, Complete
• Please delete the yellow Program folder.

STEP 6 - Update your device

• Reset the TomTom with a paperclip for 30 seconds.
• Connect your device to the PC and turn it on.
• Open TomTom HOME: Start, All Programs, TomTom, TomTom HOME 2.
• HOME will now load your updates (If this does not happen automatically, click on Update My GO on the main menu of HOME.)
• Make sure that only the application is marked with a green tick.
• Click on Update and Install.
• Once Installed, click on Done.
• You will now be prompted by HOME to restart your Device, just click ok.
• In the Top left of HOME, click on Device, Disconnect Device.
• Now please disconnect your TomTom from the computer and allow it to start up normally.

If you get No Maps Found on your TomTom, please repeat Step 5 until the application is no longer offered as an update.

STEP 7 Run the Clear Flash Tool

- Reconnect the TomTom to the computer and switch it on
- Close TomTom Home completely. In the bottom right hand corner of your screen, to the left of the computer clock, right click on the red icon for TomTom Home and choose Exit.
- Run the clear flash tool.
(TomTom Home must be completely closed before running this tool)
- Install the Clear Flash tool
- Disconnect your TomTom from the Computer

The device should boot as normal again. If it does not boot up to the main map screen, please make a note of what happens exactly and reply back to us with this information.

End.

P.S. You may have to do a soft reset at this point as mine refused to boot after all this and only a reset brought it back.

Gerry.

I have had a different problem since this update. When I go to 'Update my Device' the screen on my virtual One has distorted colours. I reported it to TomTom and went through all there standard solutions before it was passed to 2nd line support. They came up with the following request:-

If you go to your desktop and right-click (on an open space) and go to Properties - Settings. In there you will see a box that says "Color Quality", what is this set to?

Mine was set to medium 16bit. I changed it to highest 32bit and the problem was solved.

Thought I would let you all know in case someone else has the same problem

Alan

The instructions Gerry has posted are the ones I had which, as I've posted earlier, didn't work for me.

I'll give it another try and see if I have any better luck this time

Although it says 2.5.2.60, what you actually get is 2.6!!

Just downloaded 2.6.1.1549 and it seems to be smaller - cant think what is missing.. Confused
But back up and restore seem to have gone ??

It works OK with the 740L but

with my sons 520 it will not allow you to operate the Tom-Tom from the computer??
"You cannot use this feature because it is not supported by your device".

any ideas why?

Maurice

Installed latest version and the problem with Operate My GO seems to have been resolved. I haven't been able to reproduce the freezing that occured with the previous version.

Still notice the zoom slider at the side of the map isn't very responsive and tends to jump in big steps.

Update for the Mac is now showing the following. have updated but with a little trepidation, as the previous was working OK. Don't know if the 'update' will mess things up.

2.6.2.264
