Hi
I would appreciate your views on helping me to choose a GPS for the hills the two that I am looking at are the Garmin Olando 300 and the Satmap active ten both quite expensive but simular price range, reading on the forums it appears that the Garmin has a problem with the Os mapping that it is blurred is that fixed now or is it an ongoing prblem alos with both you have to buy thier os maps any help would be appricated as it is a lot of money to be forking out. Thanks for your time in this matter.

There are lots of issues to consider : are you ever going to go somewhere for which these systems don't have maps? - with Memory-map or Quo, for example, you can load in maps from other sources. There is a good article at http://www.walkingworld.com/home/index.asp?id=3&nid=506 |

And even if you are walking in the UK then GARMIN OS offerings are National parks based.
I have the Colorado 300 and have just purchased an ACTIVE 10 with whole of UK at 1:50k. The Satmap gets it's first real outing this week end in the Lake District.
The C300 is a wonderful piece of kit but the mapping (I have Topo UK) is not up to OS mapping by any means. I suspect the Colorado (and Oregon) may turn out to be slightly more rugged (the SD card slot is 'inside' the battery compartment and this doesn't seem to get wet even when the unit is submersed in water. _________________ Phil |
