I set of on a journey and my TMC icons showed no delays on my route.
Once on the M6 just after JUnction 16, the warning signs told me of severe delays, these warnings were displayed continuously up to Junction 19.
My TMC icon still showed no problems.
I thought that the TMC receiver used the same data as the Highways agency and Police. How come the warning signs were warning me but not my receiver.
This is the second time this has happened, is it worth using TMC
Also just after junction 17, my TMC service disappeared

May I advise you for future reference to include some information about your device? I've just looked at previous posts to discover you have a Garmin device, so my TomTom experience is no use for answering you.

TMC and things like Highways Agency and Radio traffic channels are all separate as far as I can determine and each has its own level of accuracy. NONE of them are completely reliable, simply by the nature of the beast - they all need somebody to report a problem, somebody to compile the necessary details to send out and somebody to send it out. So they all suffer human failure. The same failure can apply to clearing a problem report when it's all over.

Yesterday on my way back down south from Liverpool, overhead matrix signs started reporting M5 J3-J4 closed, but for ages there was nothing on my TomTom TMC report. I texted a friend to see if he could find out anything. Just like all the other systems, he wasn't available immediately, so he replied there was a closure at exactly the moment I was diverted off the motorway at J3!!

I came back from Gatwick Monday morning (0200) and the gantries showed slow traffic and jams. The weather was fine, there were no road works and hardly any traffic. We made record time for the journey - 3 hours.

Garbage in, garbage out Smile
