After x40 live has expired

I have bought a new 540 today and wondered if anyone knew what applications work after the expiry date live trial such as TomTom Quick GPS Fix as this is free on my 520

any ideas ? Rolling Eyes

AFAIK you can still update the qGPS data on the device in the same way as you used to i.e. via a wired connection and the TomTom Home software, not too sure about which other Live sevices would be possible though once the subscription lapses, I doubt any would work.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with the qGPS as its only any use if you use the device on a very rare basis - use the TomTom daily and the qGPS is not worth bothering with as it offers no advantage - marketing hype to be honest - Mike

Last time I downloaded Quick GPS Fix was February 2008.

I can get the weather forecast without a subscription. I *think* Buddies may work as well though I've never used it.

I would have thought that only the services accessed through Home would work as the mobile comms part of the x40 range relies on the Vodaphone network that will probably not be accessible unless a valid subscription is held for the SIM from TomTom. I don't believe anyone will provide free data calls.

I would assume TomTom are not going to pay a subscription to Vodaphone for a device/SIM that they are not getting any payment for.

It may be possible that TomTom have a fixed price deal with Vodaphone for an unlimited number of SIMs and would only stop traffic themselves at the servers, but this would be extremely unusual.
