you said you didn't move it much but befor i submitted the camera it was at ( 52.62717 & -1.13269 ) and my reading at ( 52.62698 & -1.132844 ) so i think the camera was quite alot out. |
That appears to be on the other side of the road and about 20 feet further south. Yep, you're absolutely right, it was 'a lot'. But I grant you that you can see the cam on the google map, and your second location seems to be correct, but as MaFt says, he locates cams substantially in the middle of the carriageway that they cover, not on the roadside where they are actually located. This allows better detection of the cams by some systems. |

Thanks for the picture.
It seems Gatso (the company) are making "Truvelo clones" too.
For simplicity, it will probably be left in the database for now as a "Truvelo" as that has become the shorthand for "front-facing", in the same way that the new digital cameras tend to all be called "monitrons" even though the company that make them aren't called that any more.
Maybe this use of trade names to describe the cameras will need changing one day....
I'd repeat my theory that for front-facing cameras the icon position should be at the point of detection rather than at the camera itself (every little extra warning helps!).
A good example of this is on a large junction on the A406 where some experimental cameras have been placed about a hundred yards on the other side of the junction to where they are pointing and "working". |

Most of us bother because we want the database to be as accurate as possible. Lifetime membership would be a benefit but if we didn't consider the database to be value for money we wouldn't have subscribed to it in the first place.

The thing is the camera is in the wrong position !
MaFt says :
your submission basically provided the heading data and i took it upon myself to move the camera approx 10m so it was placed on the road.
so he looks at the camera i submitted and then moves the camera
then M8TJ6 says :
That appears to be on the other side of the road and about 20 feet further south. Yep, you're absolutely right, it was 'a lot'.
It was done as a gatso which ( takes the rear of the vehicle ) so i go out pake a pic to prove that it takes a picture of the front of vehicle ,so i fact should be listed as a truvelo but still no lifetime when MaFt has moved the 2 cameras that i supplied . |

Perhaps this was said with a hint of sarcasm? 20 feet doesn't seem like a lot to me. I have moved cameras further than that in the past and not been awarded free membeship, I did not expect it and did not complain. I moved the camera because it would improve the database.
MaFt does his very best to apply the rules fairly, he cannot please all the people all the time. The number of people here with "Lifetime Member" under their name demonstrates that it is possible to win free membership. Some have won it with their first camera submission, others after years of trying.
I will continue to use the database until I can no longer afford it, no longer need it, something better comes along or it is no longer available. I have a few submissions waiting verification, perhaps I will be lucky and win free membership with one of those. _________________ Paul |

But the odds of 'winning' are much, much higher, albeit the top prize is only £17 per year
EDIT pcaouolte wrote: | Perhaps this was said with a hint of sarcasm?: |
You spotted it

i think i've only won £36 for 4 ball on lotto ,
anyway you get life membership if you :
The first subscriber to accurately report a change to an existing fixed site i.e. change of type, correction of location, move etc
but the camera is down as a gatso ( takes pics of rear of vehicle ) but when infact should be classed as a truvelo i.e ( the camera in question takes pics of the front of car )
do you see my point |

I can see that you believe that you qualify for lifetime membership.
You originally wanted lifetime membership for moving it, now you want lifetime membership for changing the type.
MaFt is in possession of all the information regarding who submitted what information for each camera and I believe that it is he who decides who gets the lifetime membership.
No doubt MaFt will be along soon to give the final judgement. _________________ Paul |

it was submitted as a gatso on the wrong side of the road:
Quote: | This camera is on the wrong side of the road |
as yet there has been no submission saying it is marked in the wrong position or as the wrong type. hence it was moved slightly to coincide with the corrected heading as submitted.

On the page where you submit your speed cameras ,would it be an idea to put a pic of the gatso /truvelo ,because they might look like gatso but are infact truvelo ( forward facing ) and in the database it might be shown wrong. Thanks to MaFt and all at pocketgps |

what i mean : if you spot a camera like the 1 in the picture i supplied you will think it's a gatso but because it's ( a truvelo forward facing ) it will be put in the database as gatso and not truvelo |

I see . I'll see if I can confirm that these units are being deployed in forward facing situations. If they are then we can add a note. _________________ Darren Griffin |
