Anyknow know when they will release iGo8 in the Uk? Its nearly been half a year now and still no sign of it.

If it is released would be really helpful is there is a "Trusted" Seller that sells it preferable a retail store Smile

Thank you all! This website is really helpful! Good Job!

Yes, iGo8 works on Samsung Omnia.
But, I'm not sure if it will start without sys.txt modification for 480x200 WQVGA screen.
This is important especially if you are intending to apply some of the skins.
The best one, ULtraSkin, is not supporting this screen, and adopted version has simply to small controls for nice operation.
AFAIK Dimka and Gurjon skins can work, but only with landscape mode.
Interesting thing is, if you have to buy iGo8 now (ver. 8.00, with maps 2008.01/2008.04) and pay for updates, or wait a while, as ver 8.3 with maps 2008.08 were recently released.

Well... My advice: if you're going to drive in Romania, you have to use the 2008.01 map instead of 2008.04. For iGo 8.3, you'll have to use recent, 2008.07 map.
Why? Look at the maps's sizes:
2008.01 - approx 14MB;
2008.04 - approx 240kb (sic!!!)
2008.07 - approx 15MB (for 8.3. only, till now).
I've spent 9mths in Romania in 2006, driving with iGo2006 from Poland, through Czech Rep, Slovakia, Hungary, entering the Romania near Arad, driving to the Transilvania (Paroseni, Petrosani, Hateg, Hunedoara), and from that point to Constanca and Bucharest.
Well, except of few points, it was smooth navigtation.
One advice:
remember that roads in Romania are VERY poor, and still under neverending "construction". you have to be careful especially when going out of the one-digit roads.
Plan your travel to drive during the day basically.
Never overtake, if rest of the column is slowing down, they usually know what they are doing. Truck drivers in Romania (especially romanian drivers) are very friendly, sometimes they are helping you with the overtake by signalling with side lights.
and.. have a nice holliday there Very Happy

Yeh Il be carefull, Thanks mate :D

Now just need to buy a car and then the satnav i guess :D, I guess the only problem you say is once hitting romanian 1 digit roads? Since my planned route so far towards romania is all through european interlinked motorways so should be any problem..

My route:
England (London) --- France --- Belgium --- Germany --- Austria --- Hungary --- Romania (Bucharest).

Hopefully no big holes or anything :D

Thanks a lot for your advice :D

Cant wait for summer to come :D

Will360. Just to give you a taster of what to expect from iGO8.

I entered Romania then Bucharest but no luck. I found I had to enter Bucuresti. I haven't the address so set the route to City centre.

I could then set as Destination which would set my chosen Fastest route. However, there is another option, More Options, tapping on this takes you to the next page where you can select Routing Methods. This will work out 4 different types of route with Distance, Time and some of the road numbers on route.

These are the results for Bucharest form my home.

Fastest...1671 miles - 29 hours 22 minutes
via A18, 3, 93, A2 and 14.

Shortest...1509 miles - 36 hours 53 minutes
via R31, 66, 12, 1, and DN7

Economical...1665 miles - 29 hours 14 minutes
via A26, A35, 170 and 14

Easiest (Route with least turns) 1672 miles - 29 hours 24 minutes
via A18, 3, 93, A2 and 14.

Tap on your selected route.

The standard Skin is Ultra but you can download Ultra Skin 5 from PDAMill which opens up a few extras.

Normally you would want to add a via or stopover, the standard Ultra Skin will show a list of places on route, Green for On Route, Yellow for close and Red for far. The Ultra5 Skin has the added extra of showing the distance from route, usually 0 yards, so it's easy to list the POI's in order of distance where you could find a POI is off route but less than a mile, which is easier than travelling 10, 20 or 30 miles further to the next one shown green.

In additon you could, before you leave, block certain roads you don't want to travel over, iGO will route around them if possible.

If there are any routes you'll be travelling whilst there and would like an idea of how you'll be routed, ask here, or PM me if you like, and I'll let you know the answers.

Lost_property:
To the planned road... well.. iGo is good, but...
Do some example:
set the start as Poland, Katowice (center), and destination as Petrosani (Hunedoara, Romania).
Well... using the shortest road, you'll drive approx 17-19hrs (sic!) on the only 800km road.
But, if you'll implement: via 1, motorway near Bratislava, Slovakia, then Arad as via 2 in Hungary, you shall obtain something 1100km, which you'll pass within 12-14hrs.
For the second option, I've made usually first 850 km within 8-9hrs, because it was motoways only, and remaining 250-300kms within 5hrs as minimum Laughing

One more:
if you're planning you route on laptop/PC, of course you can use services like maps.google.com for easier setting your wayopints etc.
But, again about TA "advantages", please compare this:
input "Petrosani, Romania" into maps.google.com (TA based service), and same phrase in uk.map24.com (Navteq/local maps based).
Can you see the difference? Wink

These are the results for Katowice to Petrosani.

Fastest...551 miles - 13 hours 52 minutes
via 44, 67, 68, M35, DN76

Shortest...513 miles - 15 hours 27 minutes
via 44, 67, 4, DN76

Economical...531 miles - 14 hours 01 minutes
via 44, 67, 26, 35, DN76

Easiest (Route with least turns) 551 miles - 13 hours 52 minutes
via 44, 67, 68, M35, DN76

The maps I have are 2008.01, maybe any new roads are shown on later maps.

In real, the fastest and easiest way is:
Start on E75, in Poland, keep it through Czech/Slovakia (Bratislava), go to Hungary (still E75, Gyor, Budapest) near Szeged take E68, keep it through Arad (Romania), and keep it to Deva. After Deva, turn into E79 and keep it to Petrosani. Total route: 688miles approx.
Theoretical time: 14:30. Practical can be cut down to 12-13 (driven once/month at least since 04-2006 to 12-2006).
But E79 is DN66 (with famous cardboard "pub" named Route 66 on crossroads in Hateg), not DN76...
If you have 2008.01, you re lucky man, if you'll have opportunity, look at 2008.04 ;)
