I have the 660 TMC working fine in my VW BORA (aka Jetta in some parts and 'same' as MkIV Golf).

I simply bought an aerial splitter (about £10) and connected this into the aerial line. I instantly went from 5% coverage to 95%+ coverage. THe only areas I don't get any reception are those far away (40+ miles) from transmitters and when I have hills directly shielding the transmitter (quite common on mid sections of the M62 although only for a couple of minutes at a time).

Most VWs have an amplified roof aerial so the signal strength is very good and the splitter doesn't prevent good FM signal reception of the radio.

This method should work for GARMIN or TOMTOM devices

Yup the TMC on the Garmin 765T I'm testing currently is just as 'deaf' as TomTom's and does not have the option to connect an external antenna.

As it's a test unit I suppose the option of 'altering' the string aerial (ie. cutting the end off and stripping it back) is not on Laughing

What's the 765T like? It could be a serious upgrade option for me.

I'm a little disappointed with it so far. It takes 30 secs to reach the Disclaimer screen on start-up which is very slow and when I'm driving the map will frequently stop re-drawing so that the road ahead appears to be a cul-de-sac. Only as I approach the very end of the on-screen road does it re-draw and fill in the gaps.

The 3D buildings are OK but just eye candy IMO. I have a length drive hoem tomorrow for a funeral so will have the opportunity to evaluate the TMC and the lane guidance as well as enjoy RoadTour's Tourguide to pass the time!
