Is it possible to connect a garmin etrex to a toshiba e330 pda via a serial cable? I can imagine that it's possible to connect the serial cable of the etrex to the serial cable of the toshiba via a straight or cross connection but does gps software recognize the gps receiver in this way?

Greetings.

I can't say for your combination, but it has certainly worked in my case. I've had my Garmin GPS V talking to my iPAQ 3970 which was running MS PocketStreets.

Tim, how did you do the connection? Just connect the two pc cables of both devices to each other (with or without cross)?
But youre cable made connection between the ipaq en the garmin? Was it also a serial connection? Did it need drivers on the ipaq or did the software just recognize the gps receiver?

Thanks.

I used the Garmin serial port cable and the iPAQ serial port cable with a crossover in the middle. If you think about it, both cables contain a crossover, so you need a third one to actually cross the data. PocketStreets comes with GPS support I think. If not, it is a free add-on. That's all I used. The only limits are that PocketStreets doesn't support routing and the mapsize is also limited, though I don't know to what size.
