Having recently returned from a serious tour through Spain and France where I found my Nuvi250 to be more than a little useful on a few occasions, albeit in a somewhat limited way, I have decided to procure a more comprehensive and bike friendly device. I am still working out exactly what I want but it needs to be a small and self contained device with integrated GPS receiver and bluetooth. Now for the question, do all bluetooth devices enable the user to hear voice directions and warnings via a bluetooth headset or is that a function of the nav software that is being used? Obviously with helmet and bike / wind noise there needs to be a way of hearing the directions and warnings given, and I do not want the hassle of having to plug in wired headphones or such like. Before anyone suggests that I look at the Zumo or TT Rider I have and I dont like them. Thanks

The TomTom 720 series (and I presume the other 5x and 9x series) do allow you to hear navigation and warnings through bluetooth. However, they use stereo bluetooth which most helmet bluetooth devices (such as Cardo) do not support.

In contrast, the TT does work with non-stereo bluetooth devices.

There is a work around where you can put extra third party files on the TomTom to force it to recognise (and use) most Bluetooth devices - you have no way of knowing whether this will work until you try your own combination of devices - Mike

Is it possible to do that to a OneXL? I've tried Google search but couldn't find anything. I use the XL more on the bike than car and did intend fitting an earphone socket so this interests me.

The bluetooth SW can be found here http://www.nodomain.org/hififix.zip/. There is a discussion here http://www.yournav.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11895&st=0&start=0

All this fix does is allow the TomTom to recognise more devices, your deveice still needs to support the Stereo Bluetooth protocol, which Cardo doesn't.
