There's a new camera on the A3 exiting London just prior to the Kingston turnoff (just after ASDA).

It has very visible road markings both before and after the camera. The Camera itself is grey, not yellow. It appears to have 4 letterbox openings 2 facing in each direction.

Any idea what it is?

Please add pictures, as without it is hard to guess what type of camera these odd shapes are.

3282 is an existing camera SW of ASDA on the A3, targeting traffic leaving London. A photo would be very useful?

It's not exactly in a spot where you can stop + take a pic.

Surely there are not many types of speed camera that face in both directions of the same lane simultaneously..?

Of course, I am assuming it's a speed camera by the markings on the road.

You could park in Asda and go for a stroll or park in the sports ground car park adjacent to the camera Wink

Your description doesn't ring any bells with me so I can't identify the camera, I don't recall any camera new or otherwise that fits.

Does it definitely face in both directions simultaneously?

There's a Truvelo camera near where I live, which is reversible and has road markings before and after the camera in each direction - although it only faces in one direction at a time.

I could go take a look tonight, but as with ALL these sorts of questions, a Latitude/Longitude to head for would make it so much quicker to find the location.

I have an appalling sense of direction, I know I travel on the A3 (probably further out though) and I know that Kingston isn't too far from work, but I've now got to mess about for ten minutes zooming in and out (or heaven forbid, get the A-Z out) and I still won't be SURE whether or not I've got the right spot until I arrive there and there's no Asda in sight!

Co-ordinates please!

Andy, Gatso 3282 is either the exact location or as near as makes no difference. On carriageway heading out from Wandsworth, SW of Asda.

Andy, try Latitude: 51.43753899050957 Longitude: -0.252373069524765

If you zoom right in on the submission map, these co-ordinates look like the grey rectangle of a Gatso that tie in with the road markings

Not able to check the co-ords above, but if it helps, the address of the Asda is :

31 Roehampton Vale
London, SW15 3DT

IIRC the cam is on the pavement, heading South past the supermarket but prior to the right turn to the A308.

Was planning to get out there last night for some pics but it was too late by the time I got home.

EDIT : Firewall allowed me access! Darren is right - 3282 is where it is sited.

Head for the supermarket with the empty car park - here

...and it looks like the guy painting the white lines had a liquid lunch that day too Laughing

Gah! Typically just after I posted, I realised I could find it from Darren's mention of GATSO:3282.

Laughing Out Loud - like the white line!

Thanks everyone, I'll go take some pics...

This sounds like the camera near where I live.

If you look at Latitude: 50.8454 Longitude: -1.182963 on the submissions map with the satellite setting, you can see road markings for both Truvelo and Gatso type cameras but only one camera in the central reservation

I also had a look on Google Maps, but (for some reason) this image is different and doesn't show both sets of road markings - hence, I can't provide a link...only co-ordinates

This camera is a reversible Truvelo, but only checks one direction at a time. It is usually angled to work as a forward facing Truvelo, but occasionally appears to be set up like a rear facing Gatso...

...I'm not risking points on my licence to see if a Truvelo is capable of working as a rear facing Gatso

It's definitely not a Truvelo! If anything it looks like a gunmetal grey cross between an old gas lantern and a prop from Dr Who Shocked

Whether or not the cam is reversable internally, uses gas to power the flash, or has a built in death-ray for a zero-tolerance approach to speeding is to be discovered...
