now that my traffic sub has run out and I have got 720 with version 8 app & maps ,now I want to buy a tmc receiver but am unsure which is the best to get as it looks like there is more than 1

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000W3H2A6/interactiveda3039-21
and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TomTom-RDS-TMC-Traffic-Receiver-receiver/dp/B0015PT0RS/ref=pd_sbs_ce_1/026-2838086-6585244

which of these 2 are best or is there any other that is better

thanks

The picture can be misleading, with retailers not updating the image when the device is updated etc.

The receiver you need is 4V00.013, which works perfectly well in the UK on a 720 with v8.

This 4V00.013 part number is the one which is etched into the egg-shaped part of the receiver, not necessarily that which is on the packaging.

When P&P and everything is taken into account, there are several outlets for around the same price - eBay, EasyDevices to name but two.

Although the Amazon price was tempting, getting information relating to the specific device was not forthcoming and I decided to go elsewhere.

I've found sellers on eBay to be helpful and some are available at "Buy It Now" prices, or you could bid and wait.

I have also found EasyDevices to be helpful.

Here are a few links to get you started:

£23.99 + £2.99 P&P

Bid + £4.99 P&P

£23.49 + £6 P&P (I think)

If you are unsure, ask for the number etched into the egg-shaped part of the receiver and feel free to come back and ask for any assistance if you need it.

edit: as a true comparison, I think that the Amazon purchase would be subject to a £3.99 P&P charge

It was the first of my listings above which I used and it was definitely a 4V00.013 which I received - arrived the day after I bought it and it works.

I have also brought one from them. It was a 4V00.013 model.

Works perfectly.

Easily remedied - use the suckers to attach it to one of the windows (high up) and allow run vertically down the window and plug it in.

I'm not sure if it's critical, but it might also be worth connecting your receiver before you turn on your TT - particularly the first time you use it.

used it today for the 1st time and it works great ,didn't even have to put it on the dash ,the only thing i did find is that it seems to take a while to get it's first fix then after that it seems to update every 15 minutes

Too it for it's real first run on thursday seemed to work great ,although i did notice it has to be run full out on the windscreen for best results leaving not much room for hiding the cable ..would 1 of these work as an extension

As an extension for the RDS-TMC unit?

No it won't as the connector is a six pole device, the RDS unit uses two of the ceter pins and the two contacts on the inside surface of the outer body - Mike
