Just a general subject really but I was wondering why it is that PGPSW is still having to ban members for breach of copyright in respect of the camera database. You'd have thought that by now people would have got the message. Every update there always seems to be a few individuals who obviously haven't learned anything. I suppose it would be naive to think that someone won't try a rip-off from time to time but I'd like to know (if anyone can tell me) how many members have been binned, say over the last 6 months? Just idle curiosity really.

Cheers

who can say why they do it!? numbers have dropped dramatically since enforcing this more but still stay at a steady 1-3 per month.

excuses tend to range from lending it to a colleague who must have uploaded it, to flat out denial!!

MaFt

PS - 23 banned so far this year due to breach of copyright an average of 2.3 per release

I've had banned members claim they weren't aware they couldn't share it, others who knew darn well and were surprised to be caught and others as MaFt says who blamed it on a friend/colleague who has shared it.

The number of breaches is dramatically down but for every one member who shares it we witness hundreds of downloads as it spawns across all the pirate sites and download sites.

It's saddening but at least we can punish those responsible who will then be left at the mercy of pirate downloads. Often these are many months older than claimed on the file title so it serves them right of they choose to rely on it.

Slightly off topic but has it been mentioned before or posted about allowing sat nav retailers or ebayers to purchase a voucher from Pocket GPS World for one down load of the relavent camera data base ( say with a unique serial or code number) and supplying this with there satnav units. Dont know on the technical front ,how hard this would be . Could any one throw any light on it.

We already offer such a service to retailers. Those who are authorised can pre-install our database on units they sell.

Taking it one step further would it be possible to open it up to members , in order to give one voucher as a birthday or christmas present , a damn sight more use than a pair of socks Happy Birthday! Merry Xmas

And s'funny you should mention that as we are testing just such a system for possible roll-out later this year Smile

Hopefully we'll have it ready towards the end of the summer, it would be earlier but we have a couple of larger projects under way and these need to be completed first.

Keep those suggestions coming though!
