[quote="DABurleigh"]Nomad,

After doing the same myself (see earlier in thread) I thought I'd be helpful and explain my difficulties to MM, so they could be aware when others had similar difficulty. Rather than apologising for their upgrade instructions being duff, as I had been clear to explain, apparently it was my fault for getting onto the .com website instead of .co.uk.

I didn't interpret your earlier message as having stumbled across two sites but as having stumbled across another page. This and subsequent messages from others in fact added to my confusion and I thought my firewall settings could be to blame, grrrr not so.

I'm a newbie to MM but from what you are saying MM's attitude towards
a customer is to say the least poor and they certainly need to sort their web site support out to make what is what far clearer.

Nomad,

1) The overlay files are not backwards compatible, preventing sharing of overlays (even just a single route, hardly cutting edge option stuff) with family and friends with older versions. One receives an "Unknown object" error. This is a major problem for me; any way around it?

One work-around is to export the visible route as a Maptech Terrain Route file (rxf). This is a text file which can be imported into the earlier version.

Richard - thanks.

Nomad - sorry if I confused rather than helped. Nevertheless I'm tempted to try again. You said "So I wasted hours trying to upgrade, eventually realising I was wasting my time cos I only use MM on OS 1:50K maps".

Just to be clear - MM is quite correct in that there IS indeed a free upgrade to 2004, INCLUDING the OS version. The easiest way to do it is to IGNORE their instructions to upgrade from within the MM program, and instead go direct to:

http://www.memory-map.co.uk/dl_mm_navigator.htm

as I thought I had made clear in my 8.42pm posting last Friday.

Sorry Dave but www.memory-map.co.uk only has OS 2004 version 4.0.1 on it. www.memory-map.com has Navigator version 4.2.1 available for down load and specifically says this it will not run OS maps. I have tried it and it won't run my 1:50k maps because of licence restrictions. It may well run other digital mapping but not the OS ones.

Nomad,

It sounds as if you are not trying to upgrade correctly.

I can confirm that if you start MM2004 4.0.1 then select the "Check for updates" option from the web menu you will be taken to a download page where the MM2004 4.2.1 is downloaded.

The initial confusion was caused because originally the link was directed to the memory-map.com site. This was very quickly rectified in the first day of the upgrade availabliity.

Nomad,

I have difficulty understanding your difficulty.....

Following the upgrade I have a version of MM that delivers the following text captured from my MM Help-About screen:

About OK
Memory-Map OS Edition 2004
Version 4.2.1, Build 413
Licensed to D A Burleigh

Map Import: YES
Printing: YES
GPS Programming: YES
Real-time plotting: YES
Pro features: YES

License Valid.

Copyright (c) 2003, Memory-Map, Inc.

So, if you upgrade correctly, you can see you can indeed obtain a version 4.2.1 running OS maps. I agree that MM certainly didn't help avoid this confusion in the first place with incorrect webpage linking. They continued to deny there was a problem even when it was pointed out to them.

Still waiting for technical support for my own upgrade problems .....

This is what I was doing and I kept being offered version 4.0.1. If this was in fact a site error then I will try it again but at the moment I cannot get
a response from either .com or .co.uk

I also am not running a professional licence, will this make a difference?

I am however, a little perplexed about MM's statement on .com about the upgraded not being available to run OS maps due to licencing issues but becuase I can get on neither site at the moment I do not know if anything has been changed.

Got in at last and I do not see any changes to the sites, it definitely says
4.2.1 is not availble to run GB OS maps on .com and I am still being offered 4.0.1 on .co.uk via the 'check for ugrades' sub menu.

How did you get a professional licence key for the OS2004 version?

MemoryMap UK (who are the only ones who sell the OS version) do not yet provide a professional licence key.

MrT,

I guess in ignorance I simply went to:
http://www.memory-map.com/software_upgrade.htm

entering my 2004 OS licence number, paid my $100, and it worked. I drive around using MM with OS mapping with the PocketGPS speed camera database imported into it no problem. I thought that's what lots of people did! But with the latest upgrade the documentation is out-of-date regarding proximity alarms when importing CSV files.

I wish MM had a better intrinsic way of altering characteristic of a group of waypoints/marks.

I tried that and I see that the UK licence numbers and US licence numbers are interchangeable. So you can buy an US professional licence and use it on the UK OS maps. So if you want a UK professional version buy a US licence as they don't sell a UK professsional licence. Odd marketing.

>Just what is the CSV format I now have to use in v4.2.1? <

OK, a mere 4 weeks after asking MM this (and many nags), I have the following reply from US MM:

"Our development staff is efforting the problem at this time and we should have a fix available in the next few days. When if becomes available, I will ensure that we send you a link to the latest update."

But with phraseology like "efforting the problem at this time", you didn't need me to tell you it was of US origin :-)

I do think this upgrade was a rushed job.

The url my copy of memory map uses for the check is :-

http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads_os2004_check.shtml?version=4.2.1

Which returns the latest version is 4.2.2....

So about to d/load the latest version.

Maybe we ought to have a prize for guessing the difference between 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 is; there is nothing mentioned in MM's "version" documentation.

It hasn't cured my CSV import proximity alarm waypoint problem, and the help documentation doesn't even refer to the new waypoint properties available.

4.2.2 has certainly cured a bug for me. Previously when printing a map showing a route with labels the labels were huge and covered most of the map. Now the labels are scaled properly.

As a prize I would like the TNT man to deliver my TTN3 upgrade today please :D
