Latest joke'o'gram from TALEX has just careered into my Inbox:

Quote:
We received this message a couple of months ago from a
customer, Here's the story from the customer who wishes to withhold
his name...

On January 28 I was caught by a mobile speed camera on the
A20 Sidcup Bypass.

I think I was suckered into it;

On the coast-bound 40 mph section I found myself behind a car
travelling in the fast lane at less than 35 mph. When we reached
the 50 mph section, it sped up to maybe 45 mph. Then it
suddenly accelerated and I (as a natural reaction) kept up. Then
it pulled over into the slow lane and onto the exit slip road for
Chislehurst, leaving me looking down the barrel of a mobile
speed camera set up on the overhead roundabout.

Looking at my speedo, I saw I was doing over 60 mph.

I can think of no explanation for the other driver's behaviour
other than that he was a police officer setting up drivers for
the trap. I pass that point at least twice a week and since then
I have carried a digital camera in the hope that I may catch them
at it again. Unfortunately, no luck.

The customer -- lets call him "John" -- knows that I can't
endorse his accusation because there is no direct evidence,
however it's not the first time I've had reports like this and I'd
like to hear from anyone with a similar experience.

The only way you can protect yourself from a Mobile Speed
Trap is with a laser detector like the Talex Laser Detector.

When the mobile laser unit 'locks' onto your car, you've got 3
seconds to reduce your speed before the policeman's unit takes
a reading.

That's enough to get you under the speed limit.

If you have not already tried one for yourself, see the
"P.S" below...

All the best

Adam Blair
Founder, Talex Technology Ltd

ROTFLMAO

Much as I dislike camera partnerships and especially mobiles, does he really think they need to set up such 'stings' to entrap the unwary and inncocent? Crikey, motorists are queuing up to be trapped!

I shan't even bother to re-iterate how unlikely ANY laser detector is too warn you in sufficient time.

You really couldn't make it up, this kind of farcical marketing surely does them no good at all?

Mr Blair has presumably spent a bit of dosh, time and effort developing an attachment to the current Talex that nobody wants.

He's probably got quite a few units in stock that he's trying to shift Smile

I was sent an email a while back pointing to a picture of the laser unit connected to the Talex and talk about a jumble of wires in the cockpit - no thanks.

it was originally promissed in an earlier spam as "seamlessly integrating" with your talex. This turns out to be sharing the 12V ciggie power plug with 2 wires trailing down the dash instead of one, really impressive engineering Smile

Accelerating to 60MPH then taking the inside lane followed by the slip road, don't you just love this type of very considerate driver? - lets carve up every other road user and be first to the exit!
All too often this causes excessive brake wear or accidents, a considerate driver - I think NOT - Mike

As an ex-Talex owner, fed up of with in-fighting, bad service and unfulfilled promises, anything from Talex is now automatically filtered, flagged as read and flushed away where it belongs.

I guess that some people will believe it. I wonder if a complaint to trading standards is in order? Twisted Evil

The whole Talex episode is a farce. I bought my Talex Lite about 2 months before the company went bump, and I also bought the subscription kit. Since then, I've had a variety of increasingly ridiculous emails from Talex (like the one above) and have been offered a re-subscription to the Talex updates (at a further cost, of course).

I gave up and bought a Road Angel Plus instead....

Mark.

Are the mobile cameras using some sort of low speed laser then? Perhaps for extra accuracy they have a laser that operates at a lot less than the speed of light? Laughing

I thought that it was one third of a second. This is longer than the average person's reaction time, so what chance of beating it?? (without a jammer)

more blair humour arrives:

quote:

We’ve had a big ‘bust up’ in the office this week over whether
to tell you about this incident or not.

It could end up costing me money as there is a risk some
people might be put off using their Talex Units.

My view is;

You need to know the truth, it’s only fair.

I can still hear Steve, Talex General Manager, shaking his head
and saying ‘No Adam - don’t EVEN go there!’

We’ve recently received reports that a particular Police force
have been illegally confiscating Speed Camera Detectors…

Rest assured it was not a TALEX that was confiscated, but a
device that is similar.

Let me just say this at the OUTSET…

All TALEX products are 100% LEGAL. It is the actions of
the Police in this case that ARE ILLEGAL.

It’s looking like this was the case last week as well, when they
changed the colour of the Camera Van from White to "Battered
Blue".

Maybe units like your TALEX are starting to hit the Police
where it hurts… In their pockets!

TALEX units are based on GPS technology; surely the
Police aren’t going to start confiscating Sat Nav’s and
mobile phones or even entire cars where Sat Nav’s are
installed as standard…

The confiscation story ended happily as the device was
recovered from the police with the help of a friendly solicitor.

In the unlikely event that the Police try to confiscate your
TALEX, call us immediately at the office with your documentation
from the Police handy on 0845 2741110 and we’ll get our legal
team to start the process of recovering it.

What this episode demonstrates to me is that the police are
concerned about the fantastic job Speed Camera Detectors are
doing for motorists in preventing speeding fines and penalty
points.

However, you need to keep yours updated with the latest Speed
Camera and Mobile Speed Trap locations so that you are 100%
protected from the "sneaky" practices that the Police are now
employing like this:

tap on -- http://www.talex.co.uk/sneaky to see what they are
up to.

All the best,

Adam Blair

So I'm safe in the event the police confiscate my talex, Wow!
