pocketgpsworld.comTomTom have today announced the release of an update to their HOME desktop application bringing the latest version up to v2.3.

As tends to be the case, TomTom are not saying too much on what updates and improvements have been included in v2.3 outside of 'many fixes and increased stability'.

The update is currently PC only and is available from within HOME itself or by visiting www.tomtom.com/home.

Plugged in the 930 and it offered the UK TTS voices straight away, so looks like this will cure the problems for the current 930 users that got the Euro versions from Pixmanis

Just upgraded my home for Go720 on pc, it is now version 2.3.0.70, and from what i can see all the faults of the previous version still remain! It still tells me to restart device each time i dock, "operate my Go" on pc, still does not work but the option to report the errors has now gone! (they must have had to many reports) apart from that i just see more options for them to try and sell us stuff!!!

Installed just now on Windows XP Home Sp2 while the 520 was connected. It went on OK, but advised that the MapShare monitor (or something) version 1.1 was not compatible with the new Home 2.3.0.70. This item was removed and a check automatically made to see if there was an available version, which there wasn't.

When the install was complete, Home went looking for updates, but I got a 'Server Unavailable' message. Stopped and started Home and was offered the 'Kate' voice and MapShare corrections. Downloaded them no problem and sent two of my own updates. Kate was already installed, but what the heck.

There does not seem to be much difference, just cosmetic changes to the icons on the interface and a new menu item on Page 2 'Find Accessories for my device'. There's also a banner type area at the bottom of the interface that says 'Personalise your TomTom device'. This takes you to the TomTom web site at http://www.tomtom.com/home/personalise-device/?Lid=1&selector=true

That's about it. When I go to 'Opeate my GO', it says 'Welcome to GO 720', which is the same as the previous version. I know the hardware for the 520 & 720 are the same, but shouldn't it be smart enough to recognise what device is connected?

I'll post further, if I find anything else worth mentioning.

mine said it was getting mapshare updates (as normal) even took the time doing it. However noticed that the number of mapshare corrections did not go up by any at all from the last update!. First time i have noticed that happen. i only noticed as the number in use is 99999. prob just a one off or a slow week.

This details the way to remedy the 99999 limitation.

Just installed v2.3 and it is saying "Your device is 31 weeks out of date 20567 Free Map Share map corrections waiting". Which is great but when I click on the button, it comes back saying "No items available"!!

Can anyone shad light on how you get the Map Sharing to work?

Cheers

Just updated and it would appear to work ok, mapshare etc is all working fine for me.

I can confirm mattstachurski's findings that at least a few of the bugs of the previous version are still with us in this version, specifically:-

When using 'operate my device' my 920 still reports as a 720.

When using 'operate my device', if you access the 'Voice Preferences' page it will report that there is only 1 voice available, Jane English UK, there is no sign of Kate even though it just downloaded the updated version of Kate...

During the first update on this new verison of Home, I noticed a 'one time update' listed in the update list, but there was no further information to say what this #one time update' might have been, and there was no option to stop it from being installed either...

Regarding issues with the mapshare updates, I was checking out the new version of home and under the 'Tools' menu I saw an item called 'TomTom HOME Add-Ons' checking this told me that I had the 'map share status indicator' installed, but it also listed a Map Share Status add-on for download. Turns out that the version that was installed was 1.0 but the on line version was 1.2 but the software did not prompt me to update this at any time, I only saw this because I checked manually, so I uninstalled the one I had, and installed the new one.

Those of you reporting issues with mapshare updates may benefit from updating this TT Home add-on, although version 1.0 was working ok for me, and I have had no problems with version 1.2.

Hope thats of some help to some of you...

Gaz, 930 softwear will not work on the x20 or x10 devices, all you can do is wait and hope that TomTom will release a new software version for your 910, to make the most of any new features would most probably also require the puchase of a new map - Mike

How likely do you think TT would be to do that though Mike Question

I have a 910 that I'm really happy with at the moment but am considering upgrading to one of the *30 series, preferably the 530 when it's eventually released.

I would have liked to have said I was for sure, or seriously considering upgrading, but having read all the trouble that people have been having with the *20's, I'm really not so sure now. Confused

Lets just say I'll be packing my 910 along with any new shiny x30 for my next long trip down south IF I buy one. Exclamation
