I logged on again, the first for a good long while and am disappointed to find that you now have to pay, to access the speed camera database, when did this occur and why, as the last time i was on, it was free to download the database??

Confused. Question

Where have you been for the last 2+ years? Smile

The announcement was made Here.

The details were amended last year as announced Here.

They are both long threads, but the first post has all the relevant details.

The database has only been available to subscribers for over two years now!

Ha Ha.

I haven't been using my Navman iCN 635 for a couple of years, but was going to use it again soon, so thought of updating the speed camera database, as i did for this very first time on here, for free, when the unit was new.

Sorry, but i just don't see how £20 is warranted Shocked for a download maybe once a year or less. Evil or Very Mad

I wasn't looking for access to the forum or anything similar. The only reason i even posted the question on here, was because i couldn't find any contact detail for the main webpage or i would've contacted the website direct.

Thanks for the reply anyway, but looks like i'll not be updating anything then. Rolling Eyes Sad

Well for a once a year download it probably isn't but we can't run a service that caters for every possible user sadly and there are very few people who drive only once a year.

The database is only any use if you update frequently. Updating once a year and relying on it for the next twelve months is highly inadvisable.

We used to have a £2 option for one months access but the pirates spoilt that one and it was withdrawn.

Most of my driving is done locally, then on occasions i will go a bit farther afield.

The sat nav is for getting to some more remote locations (single track in the highlands & access to game estates), as my map reading is first class, being a long distance recovery driver. sat nav in lorry, but i am talking about my own personal one being updated in the 4 x4.

As you say, £20 for maybe once ot twice a year just isn't value or viable, so what is the answer then, to getting a once or twice a year update, seeing as it is now a subscription service?

Other than subscribing and taking the opportunity to report cameras in the hope of getting the Lifetime Subscription we offer there isn't one.

Ours is till the cheapest solution available with the widest coverage of any database. As I explained, we don't have an option that fits your usage and will not re-instate the monthly option owing to wide scale abuse by the thieves amongst us.

There is one alternative that requires good map reading skills Rolling Eyes and that is purchase a road atlas from either A to Z, Phillips or Collins as these all contain the speed camera database from this site, probably cheaper than £19 per year, but they don't get updated Wink - Mike

£14.75 for the A to Z so for an extra £4.25 you can have it updated for a year Wink

also, if you ever submitted any cameras or made a financial donation then you would qualify for a free lifetime subscription anyway. i have checked on your current email address but there were no matches, unless you changed your email since you last came here?

I would say, pay the money and get the updates. If it saves you 1 ticket in 3 years then you have come out on top! Plus you have the added peace of mind for those 3 years. Remember that it's the rare trips on roads that you don't know where you are likely to get caught unawares by a speed camera placed in a tricky position.

I wouldn't be surprised if the speeding fines matched the accident statistics - the majority of accidents happen within x (small) of home. Cameras get to hide in places you know like the back of your hand and FORGET they're there!! You drive locally most often, so you're at risk locally most often. Confused
