TT Traffic Vs RDS-TMC

somewhere in my garage i have a 9 year old vodafone traffic master tihng that use to sit on the dashboard. this use to warn of congestion ahead by so many junctions/miles and always warned you as you got within 50 yds of a traffic master sensor e.g. the blue poles. just wondered if the rds tmc used that too?

The data used by TomTom is isupplied by iTIS Holdings who use a number of different methods to measure traffic jams/ hold ups etc. While there is the local Police reports and advance roadwork notifications that can be used they also have real time data:
"Floating Vehicle Data" where a number of sensors fitted to vehicles relay back real time data, Eddie Stobart tucks, AA patrol vehicles and National Express coaches are equipped for this. These supply real time information to supplement other sources.

The Blue poles you mention are in fact Traffic Master which is the alternate traffic data supplier in the UK, the TomTom cannot use the data from these poles - Mike
