From a full charge to the device being completely discharged and turning itself off, I'm only getting a maximum of 90 minutes use from the built-in battery.

Is this normal for this device, or could the battery be faulty?

I've been to the Support pages and found an article about battery memory effects - which is says don't affect the C620, but it does say that the circuitry may get confused and gives instructions to overcome this. I followed these instructions, completely discharging and then fully charging the battery, but this has made no difference

sounds about on par for these devices now. the 5 to 8 hours being quoted on spec pages is lunacy.

You can always disable stuff like the bluetooth for instnace, use hedphones instead of a speaker, dim the screen until it is almost black etc.....to get the time.

I hadn't thought of turning bluetooth off, but backlight has already been turned down to about 60-70%

I know there are meant to be standards for battery life testing, but I've personally seen some companies demo a display tech with it set to the lowest display brightness - e.g. with a macbook pro the chap was demoing. He needed the backlight at 10% during a demo to prove the battery life was within limits of the quoted times whilst looping a simple web browsing benchmark....from the HD :S.

Only way to get 6hours is to turn off gps antenna, turn off bluetooth, sound, backlight, bells and whistles etc :p
