TomTom TMC Traffic Receiver ???

I have a tomtom 920T I no this sounds like a stupid question but with the TMC TRAFFIC RECEIVER are all updates Free ? or do I need to Subscribe first ? the reason ask this is My TMC Receiver doesn't catch a signal at all Thanks.

RDS-TMC is free to use as the associated license to use it is included within the purchase price, reception in the UK is still a problem for some users, where are you trying to use the device (Town or City name) and what type of car do you have it fitted within as both these factors can have a significant bearing on reception - Mike
