I recently got a GlobalSat BC-307. I currently have Pocket Streets 2002, and an iPAQ 3850.

What is the best software available?
What is the best software for Canada?

Any help would be really appreciated!

I would say you have to decide between Routis, Destinator and Mapopolis. I don't know of other programs covering Canada. (CoPilot only has Highway level maps)

What's your preference - usability or speed or functionality?

Well, price, I think!

I'm willing to pay for a good solution, but considering the GPS unit cost around $100CAD, spending $200CAD on a bit of software seems excessive.

I want something that speaks the directions well.

speaking directions is one of the given features - any program that doesn't do that is not worth considering. The other must have is automatic rerouting.

All of the above programs do that.

Price - well, that's your own decision. Buy cheap and expect a cheap solution. Higher price still means higher quality, at least in this area.

Thank you for the information - I'll check out the three software packages you mentioned!

However the Copilot alk.com site says:

"Canadian Map Data ($49) gives you coast-to-coast, street-level coverage of Canada with 830,000 miles of roads, 10 million addresses, and over 5,500 Points-of-Interest."

Perhaps this is later information.
