I have just returned my Garmin 310D to Halfords because it has stopped receiving traffic data completely, it is about a month inside it's guarantee but Halfords will not replace it as they say they need to contact Garmin about this problem, oh and they have not had any Garmin units back ?

I will have to go back tomorrow as it is a bank holiday Sad

Your contract is with Halfords not Garmin. Have a read here.

You're not necessarily entitled to a replacement unless they are unable to effect a repair within a reasonable timescale. Whatever they say though, remind them that it is their responsibility to repair or replace not Garmin's. If they choose to deal with Garmin (and most retailers of course would also) then fine but any delay as a result is their problem not yours.

Darren,
thank you for your reply, I did make the manager aware that my "contract" was with Halfords not Garmin but he said that he had to contact Garmin first to see if they had a fix which could be applied over the phone, another employee at Halfords said that Garmin could give them the Ok to replace the unit.

Would you know if this is a common fault, the traffic problem I meen not Halfords Wink

Hiya,

Was up in Coventry on Saturday. I drove up from London and I only got data driving past Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead. The entire length of the M45 I got no traffic data at all.

I've been given this link from Trafficmaster that shows official coverage of Radio transmitters as measured by Ofcom. I still haven't a clue which stations transmit the TMC data though.

I don't know how to answer that ? I am using a Garnin Nuvi 310D and it came with a lifetime subscription to the RAC traffic information, but at the moment the traffic info icon stays greyed out and will not pick up any traffic information ! Thank you for your help.

Thank you for the reply Adrian, so are you saying that Coventry is a "dead spot" for traffic information ?

Welcome to the forum Very Happy

I would take it back to the retailer that you purchased it from and nicely inform them that this item is not fit for use and would they please replace it as your contract is with them and not Garmin, I hope this helps.

Where exactly in Cheshire are you located as it should be possible to get a signal in that area, more so for the part of the county near Manchester - Mike

I was inconventry again this weekend, buyt unlike the last trip no TMC! Mad

Does anyone know if the messages take up a lotta space on the Nuvi drive? The only difference I can peg is that I had some more MP3's on the unit so less available space (well not much to be honest).

On the GTM Status page as I drove past Oxford the status changes to 5 (from 2) and instead of receiving messages the error number kept changing.

Does anying know what this means? At first I thought it was an error count as it kept going up (i.e.number of messages received with an error), but then it decreased after a while. Unless messages have a shelf life. I know the TMC service updates every three minutes or so.

I believe they are only stored in memory, not to the disk, so the number and size of mp3s will have little impact on TMC.

They do, often only minutes.

I get good TMC reception in Coventry. There should be an option in the TMC settings re-scan, but I can't remember what it's called. It might be worth trying that, so it can build a new list of stations broadcasting the TMC data.
