Its not an easy one, I did some comparisons of using a CF receiver and Bluetooth, below is an extract from my notes taken last year:

One of my major concerns with any CF product such as this is power consumption, particularly so if out walking, away from that all important ability to charge a device whilst in use. The GR-271 is nothing short of incredible when combined with the Ipaq-4700; it consumes less power than using the Bluetooth radio.
A couple of weeks ago I did a 14 mile walk using the 4700 combined with the Bluetooth GPSlim236 unit, at the end the power remaining was 35%, so I repeated the same walk with the 4700 and GR-271 (no Bluetooth enabled, as it was not required) at the end the power remaining was 53% a full 18% less power consumed, walk route/ waypoints etc were identical, duration was ten minutes longer. I have subsequently repeated this at home with similar results, the CF unit consumes less power than turning on the Bluetooth – a real first for me to experience!

However I have also tried the same test with an Ipaq-2490 running WM2005 and the figures are less impressive, the Bluetooth consumes less power than the CF unit, so it would appear the power saving is related to the device and Bluetooth hardware fitted within the PDA, even so I still got seven hours usage from the 2490/ GR-271 combination before it decided to pack-up.

Not too conclusive - it will depend upon your hardware, and being on a motorbike means you can power the PDA from the bike, for a single power lead using the PDA and CF is possibly easier to wire in - Mike
