Just picked up my first i3 on ebay for the princely sum of £23. Reason it was so cheap is because the USB socket on the side of the unit has come off.

I've had a quick look and it seems someone has been a little rough with it and broken the two small solder points that hold the socket in place.

I just want to know if the socket is a standard 5 pin mini USB socket or is it something else

Should be a failry simple repair but just want to make sure i'm buying the right bits.

First garmin i've had since i used to have an eMap stuck to my motorbike handlebars many moons ago Smile How things have moved on since then.

Can't believe you can't get hold of a mini USB extender cable from somewhere and cannabilise it.

If it's the same as the nuvi 660 I think Garmin must use an additional pin in the socket to enable the unit to turn into a mass storage device when plugged into a PC. If I try a standard USB to mini-USB (and I haved tried several) my nuvi won't switch into mass storage mode. Only the GARMIN supplied cable works - just see if you tell how many connection are present on the socket.

Something like This - Tip, search the site I linked toin order to find an exact match to what is actually in the Garmin, and best of luck with the soldering, they are not the easiest of things to change

PS you will need a Torx bit size 6 to get into the unit, but I guess you allready know that part Wink - Mike
